Look into Toyo RA1's before you commit to the 888's. They're also 100 treadwear Toyo's but everyone I have spoken to at NASA events seem to prefer the RA1.

Also, know that getting a sub 200 treadwear tire will put you outside the rules for certain events. You can run for fun, but you can't win. Goodguys events (which I wouldn't worry about) and many of the muscle car events (mainly, the next RTTC in March) have a 180 or 200 treadwear rule.

These tests all focus on tires less aggressive than 888's. The Toyo R1R is a tire that flew under my radar for a long time, largely because it was overshadowed by the 888's and RA1's. However, the R1R is beneath both the common 180 and 200 (it's 140) treadwear limits, so if you're going to go under, you might as well go with the 888's or RA1's

Thanks Brett, I have been thinking about that 200 treadwear rule. Im trying to find a tire size as close to the existing 265/17 and 295/18s I have now. I will chk those links below.

The treadwear thing is important only if you think you will be a contender. Like was mentioned, the Pro Touring events won't exclude you from running if you have tires under 200 TW, but if you want to complete for the trophy, you have to be in the 200+ treadwear rule.

Thanks Frank for your imput....and your right. Im not sure Im a contender yet, so Im going for the fit for now. Hopefully I will be able to try different tires over time as I build up track hours. However, tire size will be my issue for now onless I change rims/off-set or sizes down the road.
