Did you have the case hot tanked or clean it up in a parts washer?

If it's an aluminum case, your dishwasher will work very well. My wife loves it when I use ours for such things.

My Grandma opened her dishwasher and found Grandpa's wire wheel covers in there. He got an ear full!
The parts washers work well. Some aluminum cleaner chemicals leave a residue if the dry on the surface. I used a parts washer and then a hot pressure washer.
