We've put 8s and 10s on lots of 2nd gen Camaros in various diameters with great results. Diameter is just a matter of budget and personal taste but the 8s and 10s are what you need to keep in mind regardless of diameter.

Hi. I have a 1970 RS/SS I am running 18 by 8.5 in the front and 20 by 9.5 in the rear. If I had measured better and if they offered wider tires at the time I could have gone to a 20 x 11 in the rear. I am also running global west control tubular control arms in the front with hotchkis suspension all around. If you want more details you should check out NASTYZ28.com it is a sec gen only camaro website.

      Fitting Tires and Wheels ????
17-inch: 17x9 with 5-1/2-inch backspacing front and rear. There may be lower-control-arm contact with some steering gears. Use tires with an aspect ratio of 40 or less and section widths of 245 to 255.

18-inch: 18x9 with 5-1/2-inch backspacing front and rear. Use tires with an aspect ratio of 35 or less with section widths of 245 to 255 in front and 275 in the rear.

I run 17x8x255 up front and 17X11x315 out back on my 72 RS,,,, the wheels are a tight fit and lowering can be an issue (resolved that buy bulging the rear quarter 1 1/2")

My 73 TA runs 18x8x255/40 and 18x10x275/35 on Rushford Live wires no mod's......

It really depends on the ride height and if your willing to modify the body/wheel wells. I know there is no way a 10" wheel will fit on the back of mine as low as it sits without some surgery. Fwiw you can fit more tire on a bird than a camaro because of the shape of the wheel opening.
