I am looking at the Toyo T1R tires for the 68 GTO

The rims are going to be 18x8 front and rear, a different rim size is not an option at this point. I have to spend the money on other car items.

according to the specs for the T1R:

Tire size approved rim size
225/35ZR18 87Y RD 7.5-8.0-9.0
225/40ZR18 92Y RD 7.5-8.0-9.0

I was thinking one of the sizes below would be better:

255/35ZR18 94Y RD 8.5-9.0-10.0
255/40ZR18 99Y RD 8.5-9.0-10.0

any suggestions?

thanks

Josh

Mybe you will get more responce than me in regaurds to the TOYO T1Rs and how they compare to the PS2s... Iv'e asked that question but never received a reply............

For what it's worth I have these tires on my car right now and absolutely love them! Great on dry pavement, stick well! Great in wet conditions, and very predictable, They don't just give away at no notice like some other tires do.

BTW: I have 255/35-18 on a 9.5" wheel on the front and a 285/40-18 on a 10" wheel out back.

Josh,
IF they are sized like the Toyo R888s go with a 245 on an 8 inch rim. This will give you a straight sidewall and a neutral response. a 225 will give you a tire with a stretched look and quicker handling response. a 255 will be a little toward the fat side and slow the response time.

The size on the rim can be used as a tuning aid as well. Are you planning on running same size front and rear?

BTW I have 255/35R18 R888s on 18x9 rims on the front of my GTO.

I will be running the falken azenis 245/45/17 on a 8" rim. I would go with a 245 width.

I plan on 18x8 for the front and rear. One of the rims I was looking at that has both 18x8 & 18x10, the 18x8 won't be stock for a couple months.

so the recommendation is go with something like this:

Tire Size Recommended Rim Size
245/35ZR18 88Y 8.0-9.0-9.5
245/40ZR18 97Y RD 8.0-9.0-9.5
245/45ZR18 96Y 7.5-8.0-9.0

It looks to be a great mixed use tire from the stuff I read on the Toyo website.

The T1R is a pretty good all around street tire for the price. But they dont even come close to the PS2, but then again PS2 are almost twice the cost. I have driven both on a daily driver.

All in all I think the T1R is a pretty good choice.
