And if so how do you get the tar s hit off the underside of the roof (see pic)......The roll cage fits TIGHT......rather than playing with the bows I was thinking of simply gluing a piece of light weight carpet to the roof......anyone ever do this for a headliner???

I've seen a piece of foam (if squeezed for space use 1/8" foam) glued to the bare roof and then the head liner material was glued to the foam.

I actually redid my headliner on a '74 Z28 with some material I got from an upolstry shop. It already had the foam attached (about 1/4" thick). I just used a wire wheel to clean the old glue from the original headliner board. I don't know why that would not work here on the steel.
Sprayed contact adhesive on both peices. then put it on.
I could see having some difficutly getting it between the bars and the roof. Is the body attached to the point where you coulndn"t lift it a little?

I think I'll remove the bows and the piece of metal going length wise down the underside of the roof, remove the clips and dome light, tack in a strip of sheet metal to fill the valley in the cross brace, scrape and clean the underside then just glue some sort of material on like you say with the foam already attached......yep the body is just sitting there right now it can be lifted right off.....thks
