I checked with our parts dept the starter for auto and manual trans 6. 0 is the same the auto flexplate had a spacer or was concave to make up difference in depth . The ls1 shows a different part # for manual trans . They dont have specs for # of teeth on flywheel or diameter .

Everything i found says because of the longer crank the ls1 flywheel does not work but this may be worth looking https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif into

I am not trying to be a smart a$$ but do you think you have the flywheel on backwards? My buddy did this but it was just an older block not an LS.

HaHaHaHa lol
no i think i got that part right.
so i ended up getting the Powermaster 9504? and then my Wizard took it home and remachined the entire thing and he just phoned to tell me it looks like it will work.

so there you go.
if anyone runs in to this issue again we now know how to fix it!!
but it will cost you.

ok i know that certain lq9 engines came with a long crankshaft so you may have the wrong flywheel
on early lq9/4s

check and see if your engine had the crank flushed with the rear main or was it sticking out ?

Sounds like a 99 new body style 6.0 starter would have worked.

The 6.0 flywheel for 99 to 00 different part # than 02 for manual trans they must have compensated for the longer crank flange in the flywheel . Thats why starter part # stays the same for 99 to 05 .

What will you do when your starter goes out in the middle of nowhere?
