Nitro RC Cars

Any of you run these? A buddy of mine and I got bored and I bought one of these things to play with. Holy crap! It takes a bit to break them in and get them to run but wow the fun factor is off the scale. Nitro fumes, screaming engines that require constant tune ups and 4 wheel rubber burning drifts? Its like crack. Big grin when you get 20 feet of air.

YouTube SC8 if interested in my truck. I'm tellin ya though, if you don't want to get hooked, don't look into them. Mine is a short track truck lots of torque and no so much top end but it still goes 40mph!

I've never run Nitro cars, however I've had quite a few stadium trucks and other 4wd's

My favorite is a Frankenstein of parts. It's an Ofna Monster Pirate with suspension and final drive's of a Traxxas T-Max.
I also have an HP Savage with a ported WASP .28. That thing is flat nutty. I never would have thought you could have too much power in one of these trucks before swapping in that motor.

I used to race electric a long time ago (Associated RC10) and then my brother-in-law started racing nitro about three years back so I go the itch again. I ended up getting a Losi 8ight RTR. There is a track right by my house that I have taken it to, but have never raced...I only have room in my budget for one expensive hobby!

I have a first-gen T-maxx, only stock peices on it are the spindles....
.26 engine, 1/8 scale buggy diffs., and more and more...

Haven't been playing with it much recently, as my "real" toy needs the funds more. I might have to pull it our of the moth-balls though!

Yeah, my real car is 1800 miles away and I have nothing to play with. I really like the scale model type cars not the space ship looking truggies and stuff. They are faster, but I like mine to look like a real truck. I love my SC8. Its an absolute blast.

My Nova would be lightyears farther than it is now if I wouldnt have got into Nitro RCs. I had a gen one T-Maxx that I had $2500 into then i sold it and ended up doing 2 other high dollar trucks and Then I woke up and realized how much cash it was costing... ($100 a weekend as long as nothing broke and fat chance of that)

Nitro's are fun, but so finicky to tune.

Once I got my HPI Baja 5B gasser I never touched one of my Nitro's again:

i just moved about 20 of them in my garage the other day..our local track closed about 4 years ago and i havent messed with them much since..they are a blast though..

Battery and motor technology have come such a long way in the last decade that the advantages of nitro are pretty much gone, whatever they were. Run time? I can keep a brushless motor and a pair of 5000mAh batteries going longer than I have the attention span for it. Power? Try pulling a wheelie at any speed on demand, or back-flipping a truck from a standstill, with nitro.

I haven't touched my nitro stuff in ages. They're sitting in storage and I go "vroom vroom" with them once in a while when I go in there. T-Maxx, Nitro RS4 with 2-speed trans, 1/8 scale Monster Blazer, couple of generic 1/10 buggies.. we'd wind them out good at the abandoned hangar lots in Alameda when I went to school there. Blown connecting rods, airborne skids that would put a pre-roof flapped NASCAR to shame, tires worn to the point the treads would fly out... good times.

The gasoline 1/5 scale buggies are cool, wish I had room to run one of those.

I'll see that, and raise you the sound of an internal combustion engine screaming at 40,000 RPM :) The bigger nitro motors don't mess around, especially when ported.

With that said, I do love electrics. If I were spending any more time with my trucks I'd be moving that way. It's nice to be able to throw in a set of packs and run, instead of tweaking for 30 minutes, then running for 15 before I get bored.

At one time (years ago)I was racing 1/10 elec off road, 1/8 2wd Associated RC500 on road course and a WCM 1/4 scale stock car....
Didn't have too many down weekends...
Always wanted to do 1/5 on road....

We put stock car bodies on the Nitro cars and ran a "500" oval race..... I blew a motor about 1/2 way thru while leading... I was moping when a friend who had already trashed his car offered his motor to finish... Got it in and finished 3rd....

I have one of those and it would never stay together for me. I've got the short lived proline conversion bulkheads.

I had to do the conversion because my original setup would not hold together. I had an XTM 24.7 with torquey gearing. Even with 4wd it still had the power snap a dog bone on a hard acceleration.

I've never really understood the "finicky" aspect that people complain about. I've tuned everything from crappy traxxas engines, to the high end touring car race engines. Its not terribly hard to get them humming at their peak

However, i don't do the RC stuff anymore. I quickly lost interest when i discovered weekend drag racing. I still have a ton of cars, but so far my favorite of any RC has been the 1/8 scale buggy. They are so much fun on any terrain

currently playing with an hpi firestorm and a tamiya tt-01 with a max mamba motor but i think i just want to get a baja 5t and call it a day! ohh wait i cant i just spent another $1000 on front suspension.

I used to play with Nitro RC cars with my cousin back in the day. I don't remember how many dogbones we lost flipping the cars. I do remember my cousin running about a half mile to catch his car when the speed control disconnected and the car took on a mind of it's own and left. That was fun. I kinda want to get back into it.

I've never had the gas cars but I've still got nitro boats. Now that's fun!!! I don't have it any more but I used to have a boat that ran a motor that had a single piston, turned 30,000 rpm, and developed just over 4. horspower. Ran on 70% nitro. Man, those were the days. The boat I have now isn't near that nice.
