Ok, I know this has been covered before, but I can't find it. :slap:
Should I buy a Locker or a Posi for my 69? Will a locker be too clunky and "unload" around a corner (at speed) and throw the car into a frenzy? Will a posi hold up to the dragstrip launches on slicks in my heavy twin turbo'd Camaro for a prolonged time?
Thanks!

I take this as you have a 9" or otherwise for a differential ??
No, the locker wont 'reset' in a turn. If there is any loading on the dove tails, its locked. This is even when decelerating. It will only 'reset' when it is in a neutral float or completely unloaded. I would consider the Detroit Locker. With engine package you are talking about AND the fact that you did state 'drag racing' with smoothies....... it would be in your best interest to use one.
Its either that, or rebuild the limited slip every time its gets soft.

I would go with the locker. There is know way a posi will hold up at the drag strip with what you are talking about.

Jimmy,
The thread you're thinking about is probably when I was asking the same question last spring. I talked with several folks about it and I went Locker. They are practically bullet-proof on the dragstrip and are used by lots of folks for road racing.
I had one guy tell me (who sells Lockers to Vic Edelbrock Sr for his road race cars) that if I don't get a Locker this time, I'll be back for one when my Posi or True-Trac gives it up.

Thanks guys!! I thought I remember the masses saying that, just wasn't for sure. I remember asking last year also when I put 31 spline axles in mine because I was snapping the 28's. I bought a slightly used locker from the ads here and it turned out to be junk :ripped: and left me stranded a couple miles from the house, on a hill with no parking brake!! Needless to say, my wife was not too happy to have to sit there with her foot on the brakes until I got back there from running home and getting our blazer to toe it home. I then bought a used center section with posi from a friend of a friend and it would not hold the TQ of the car at the strip, it would only hook one tire. So, I got a peg leg 2.70 in it now that was in a bucket behind a friends shed. I really need to get the 3.00 back in it and with some good parts this time. This used junk is killing me!!
Thanks!

I guess that is what I get for buying used s^*t!! I am always trying to cheap out and get things used because they will work the same (in theory!) as new. But it usually ends up costing me soooo much more labor to jack with it and redo and so on to make it work. :banghead: I have always taken pride in the fact that I done my car on the cheap, but for about the last 3 years the junkyard and used stuff has been kicking my butt. :spank2: I guess it is time to shell out the $ for new parts!
