Ok i know this has been touched on many times. But a company came out with some "cheaper" conversion headers. They where about $300 to $400 dollars. Anyone know?

Dynatech makes some, don't know what plates go with them though (for a good fit)- http://www.jegs.com/i/Dynatech/329/11591140030C/10002/-1

With the dynatech you can get either a 3.5" X 3" reducer or 3.5" X 2.5" reducer (transistion piece from collector to exhuast pipe) with the purchase of the headers. There are two different part numbers so you need to decided what size exhaust you want to run as well. For $400 they are the best deal on the LSx swap headers I have seen. I purchased the entire exhaust system for my 68 camaro but have not installed it yet (still working on other things). You also get new header gaskets if I remember correctly.

Which motor mount plates is everyone using with these?

Ride Tech used the ATS plates on their '68 camaro (Velocity) that is running these headers. I am using the S&P plates that put the engine in the stock location. I don't have the headers bolted in but based on some pleminary mock up I shouldn't have any issues. I am also running a 600 series PS box.

I may be able to get a discount running for a group purchase on the dynatech headers. It is in the works to see if I can get 10-15 sets made in stainless. A price has yet to be set for the stainless version. If anyone is interested PM me...

I will save all PM's and try and keep track of the people that are interested. I am still waiting for the final ok on the stainless version. They will be made exactly the same as the ceramic coated in the thread and will clear the manual clutch unlike most others. I will keep everyone updated as soon as I hear something!!

I doubt this would be a popular option for many, however I'm using 4th gen OBX headers I picked up off ebay. 16 gauge stainless, 3/16 flanges, 1 3/4 primaries. $299 Shipped.
They will require a little re-work to fit properly, but I think it's worth it for the price.

Hey Rhino, could you define a little "re-work"?

Another thing, the Dynatech headers are steel? I thought they were SS already.

It really all depends on the situation. I'm building my own front sub with front mounted rack. Because of that, I can avoid some of the issues inherent in using them on a stock car.
In my situation, the drivers header kicks out toward the rocker panel. I'll be removing the collector and straightening this out.
If you're interested in doing something similar, take a look at ls1tech's conversions section. Some of the really early swaps had great luck with pace setter 4th gen headers on a stock sub. Other brands have worked well with re-routing one of the tubes (usually cyl #1) to get around the steering box.

I emailed dynatech to see if they have tested their headers with different mounting plates, I'll let everyone know what there response is...

I have a set of Hookers that are Jet-hot ceramic coated in/out that I used on my 69 that I'll sell for $400
Used for less than 200 miles. If interested drop me a pm and I'll send pics.
I used ATS mounts and Hooker plates.

So I finally got a response from Dynatech. The headers were designed around the DSE mounts. Those mounts are different than the hookers and the edelbrocks (figures as I have the edelbrocks) I wonder what the difference would be in fitment...?

The only DSE mounts are for there subframe, they don't make swap plates for a factory sub. I don't know why they would do there R&D on an aftermarket sub and not a factory setup? Have called a number of times trying to get some fitment confirmation on a stock subframe car but have yet to get any real feedback.

DSE's plates resemble some of the earlier designs where the lower bolt hole of the SB chevy mount matches one of the holes in the LS motor.
Dynatech's lack of communication, leads me in the direction of Edelbrock. For a little more money atleast I know thier headers will work with their mounts.
