New Engine for PT Camaro

Ok so im into the search for a newer engine for my PT Camaro project, having a tough time figuring out what kind of engine to go with. I am going to be using the car mainly for street but will also hit the track on occassion as well. I want an engine that is efficient, lower maintance, and something that puts out alot of power. I have been looking at the LS3, LSX376, 383 stroker, etc. What would be the best engine for what i have described for between 4-7k?

What is in the car now?

If it's already set up for a SBC/BBC I might say lean toward that.

If you're starting fresh and need headers and such anyway, then I'd go with some type of LSx engine.

The LS is the best bang for the buck in power and mileage together. The expense of swapping to one is everything needed to do the swap. Headers, mounts, harness, radiator, etc. If you have to buy all those anyway, then jump on the LS bandwagon.

On the other hand, seems everyone is putting the LS in everything. A conventional SBC/BBC is leaning towards the uncommon side sometimes. SBC uncommon ? ... it's slowly starting to head that way ...

I know right? Small blocks bore the crap out of me but in another ten years I'll probably be like "whoa! a small block, I haven't seen one in years!" lol

If the $4k to $7k budget includes being in the car running, then as the others said, stick with a small block. If it is $4K to $7K for motor, we got some badd ass LS motor in your budget.
