not running a/c, should i remove unit under hood?

what should i do? my car is a factory a/c car, but im not running ac in my car because its just a weekend cruiser. but the unit under the hood is just taking up alot of room and not being used. if i was to remove it i would still keep the unit just in case i decide to install it at a later date. should i do it and just put a block off plate there, or do i take it out to make the engine bay cleaner and free up some room? -Dom

Take it out. a sheet of steel or alum from the backside and 4 bolts is all you need.

thats what i was going to do , just buy a block off plate for it and have so much more room, and i was reading i had to take my fender off in order to get the unit out. is this true, and is there any way to avoid that? i just had the car painted and i dont want to have to deal with taking panels off..-Dom

Yes. There is a stud hidden under the fender that you cannot get out w/o fender removal.

Man, there is nothing like having cold AC whenever you want it....I would keep the factory AC.

Man I know all about it . I too just did the same thing. someone cut a hole out in my fender ages ago I guess. The hole gets covered up b the part they cut and you can't really tell.
I loosened up the fender but didn't take it out. PITA. But it looks way better with it out. now I'm going to try smoothing up the fire wall nothing special. I like the idea of adding just the heater fan cover so I can drive in the winter. The hole bolt behind the fender is crazy how and why they did that.

It's not that bad to take the fender off. Cover the edge with blue tape and have a friend help. I've done it three times since the car was painted.

If you're going to go that far I'd suggest an American Graffiti A/C delete box. It allows the removal of the big box but the heater will function. It is nice to have a heater.
