Is power steering better than manual steering? What advantages would manaul have over power?

If you plan on autocrossing, the PS box will allow you to turn the wheel much faster. My buddy converted from manual to PS on his 69 Z/28, and went four seconds faster on a one minute course. His manual steering was around 6 turns lock to lock! WAY too slow for autocross. There are faster manual boxes nearly as fast as a power box but the effort would be very high. On a racetrack a fast ratio manual box would work well but the driver might tire after a while, that's why Nascar guys use PS even though it costs a little power to run it.

Yeah, manual steering with wide tires isn't fun. do yourself a favor and go with a quick ratio power box.
