I give 'em credit for creativity, and from the pics the body work looks good (could be pounds of bondo for all I know), but it ain't for me.
Kinda cool, kinda sad.

This is what happens when theirs no one around to tell you that you have a VERY BAD Idea, and you build away

Honestly, I've actually wondered how a 2nd gen would look open wheeled (up front).
I don't hate it. It isn't really my (subtle) style, but I kinda like it.
Tons of tire clearance up front to run some 315s!

Think about it... All black (lose the flames), some nice wheels...
I would have went LSX/T56, but this could be a performer!
DSE rear mini-tubs and suspension...
It is probably light.
Wonder if he wants a 4th gen...

LOL.. Its not that bad.. I wouldnt pay for it but if it was free I'd take it.. Its not a recent build and the style shows its age.. Honestly I see these "ebay horror stories" posted on here all the time and for what this board stands for and reps I would have thought it would be a little bit more open minded to the work involved in some of these dated customs that get posted to be slammed on ...

I give him creativity points, I'm pretty opened minded about these sorts of things, and the work in general doesn't "look" like a trainwreck. Hard to tell sometimes with just pictures. He's gotta get some more krylon on that foam steering wheel though, some of the black is showing through. :enguard:

His brother must live in the Northeast, I saw a gold 78 TA done the exact same way.
I actually have some concepts on the drawing board that are on a basic level, somewhat similar.....totally, totally different execution. The problem with that car is he started with an actual Camaro vs starting with a streetrod and flavoring it with some muscle car elements. The inverted cowl is just nuts and looks forced together. There's a point where it's just taken too far. That car goes lightyears beyond that point. I'm sure someone will love it though.

There's actually a pretty cool story behind that car. I met this guy on the power tour (95 or 96) he owns a wrecking yard in Texas and he and his son built it to go on the power tour as their last hoorah before his son went in the military. I was standing in the hotel parking lot in Grand Junction,Co. when it came in on a wrecker. I had to go look because of the oddity of it and started talking to the guy and he said it was running really bad in Okla. so he had it flatbedded to Co. in hopes of getting it repaired. I felt sorry for them looking at their long faces so I took a look at it and some local genius in their hometown that put the engine together cranked all the rocker arms down like it was a Ford non adjustable valvetrain so he had broken rockers and bent pushrods this thing hadn't gotten any oil to the valvetrain at all. We replaced all the broken and bent parts, adjusted the valves, changed the oil and hoped for the best.( There was still broken valvetrain parts in the oil pan) We finished about 1:00 am. It ran for about 1,000 miles before it spun a bearing, but he was happy to have been able to spend the time with his son and experience the power tour.

Yeah, a quick search of Z-Rod Camaro comes up with a Kit manufacturing company in TX that has since gone out of business.

It takes a special person to own something like this I would paint it all black, change the wheels and drive the hell out of it, I would pay 2k-3k for it as is..

Fenderless roadsters always look weird when the nose is ahead of the front tires.
He started with an good idea... but he didn't finished it.

Did anyone notice the UCA's?
It is hideous. What looks to be a krylon job on the interior (you can see the red wearing off in one of the interior shots).

... I kinda like it... not a fan of how the rear is stock looking. All that trouble to change the front and the rear stays the same?
If the rear was as radical as the front... it may have that complete package sorta thing going for it.
I'll give him an 'A' for effort nonetheless.

This is a kit, so I feel like he shouldn't get as much credit as say a one-off piece, but I feel like you're right that people don't appreciate the amount of work that's sometimes put into a piece even if it doesn't come out good, or how YOU would want it done.
I remember reading a letter in Old School Rodz I think it was.... here's a rag that emphasizes Rat Rodz and being unique and basically using junk parts to try and personalize your ride with the idea that you're not going to be judged as harshly as the quote-unquote "yuppies".....
Anyways, there was this guy who wrote the magazine all proud of the amount of work he had done to his vehicle. He took an S-10 pickup, and chopped the top, built a custom bed in the back, and was working on narrowing the front end, basically creating what he thought of as a retro-rod, trying to go for a cross between a t-bucket and a s-10 and the editor basically trashed him and told him more or less to take the thing elsewhere, and I couldn't help but think.. How god d@mn hypocritical?
Now I thought the thing was rough, but he wasn't finished with it, and I could see the potential there, but the fact that they just dismissed it... Irritated me to no end. And IIRC, the whole point of the guys letter was to point out that newer cars could also be rat rodz and hot rods, and the editor just dismisses it because he doesn't like it and totally trashes the guy.
This is some of the crap you deal with in the industry. I try to be tolerant of whatever comes along, even if some people label things as redneck, or rice, or whatever. The only thing I have an irrational prejudice for is those silly Donk things (yes I'm aware they have different names based on the vehicle type, but you know what I mean), because besides looking ridiculous to me, they're poorly engineered, and they just don't perform well. You can't tell me those things don't rub when you make a hard corner.
Now I think the one I posted above looks worse than the one in that Ebay link, but I look at both of those cars, and even if the owners didn't do the work themselves, they clearly put a lot of work and vision into them. They both have the kit nose, obviously, but they also have custom paint along with whatever engineering was involved to make that front clip function suspension wise with the modifications.
I don't like them, but I won't bash those people for what they've done either.

one thing i've noticed about the rat rod crowd- and pretty much every other so called 'counter culture' out there- is that they want you to be unique in a such a way that you fit in with everybody else within the crowd.
it's like a grown up version of those middle class goth kids that all buy the same expensive clothes at Hot Topic and listen to the same music and complain about how materialistic and fake the rest of the world is.
someday i'm gonna build a rat rod and put a reliable modern efi engine and overdrive transmission in it. and i'll probably have less into it than the 'purists' that run a flathead- which is allegedly the point of that whole style of car.

I find that's the case with the majority of art/craft oriented subcultures. At least most of the well-developed ones.

Yep...looks like he needs to replace that Lumina steering wheel or have it wrapped in black red leather instead. That hideous car just makes me appreciate a total stock 80 Camaro. The wide front stance takes away from it all. It's reminds me an acid-induced GM prototype that the upper brass has to reel in to make an actual production car. I don't like mix-matched parts like that...around here there's a guy with an 84 El Camino with an 84 Cutlass front clip-it makes me want to carve my eyes out with an exacto knife.

There's prejudice in EVERY group. Period. This place is no different. I could list a few of prejudices on this site in a matter of seconds.
Me? I'm gonna build my car the way I want and to hell with anyone who says they don't like it.

the mere existence of this thread is proof of the existence of prejudice on this site. that people not only agree with the OP but get pretty vocal in stating how much they dislike this particular car is just gravy.
