oil catch can?

Are oil catch cans beneficial? I have a PCV set up, but found that oil was getting sucked through into the manifold. I have replaced the PCV several times but oil continues to get drawn into the manifold. My valve covers have good baffles in them.

I know that you said that your covers have good baffles but maybe they really aren't, borrow a cover to replace you cover (PCV side only) and see if the problem persist, if it does you can contact the manufacturers of vacuum pump systems, they sell separator/catch cans for the control of air/oil that is sucked from the engine.

Where can I purchase these? I vaguely remember the volvo crowd being gonzo for mann brand oil filters, same group? I think I remember ordering through napa. Just looking to confirm.

The Porsche crowd uses them.

They are not small or blingy, but they are very nicely engineered and take all of about 12 seconds to take the lid off, R&R/inspect the filter, and put the lid back on.

If your cheap, I have seen people use plastic fuel filters in the pcv line to catch the oil. They do have to be replaced every so often though. The filter above looks like a good idea.

Be careful when you buy a catch can though.

So many of them are just cans and nothing else. They're useless as the oil that is being thrown through the breather system is suspended int he air and just follows the airflow straight back out of the can again.

Make sure you get one with the internal baffles that forces the oil to hit them so to seperate it from the air.

Bailey make the only one I've used that I can vouch for.
