Ok so I was putting together an LM7 and forgot to install the lifters and treys before I installed and torqued down the heads. I understand I now need to buy new head bolts cause they arent reusable, but is it ok to still use the MLS head gaskets?? (PN; 12589227) Ive heard both yes and no. The engine hasnt been fired or even turned over at all. Just want to make sure the head gaskets can be used still.
Thanks

ive heard that many race teams running very high compression reuse the MLS gaskets up to 3+ times. Plus I just bolted the heads on they havent even been heat cycled.....

Cometics we reuse all the time. No idea on factory ones. For the expense I do not think I would take a chance.

We re-use Fel Pro MLS gaskets all the time on our Pro Stock stuff, when we re-use them we spray bomb them with a light coat of hi-tack just for water leak insurance (just to make me feel better). What you should really fix are your head bolts, if you replace them with ARP you would be able to re-use them indefinately. Since head gaskets are much harder to replace on street engines vs race engines I would reccomend that you go with new gaskets as earlier mentioned.
