I'm doing research on what kind of rims I want to get for the bird, and I think I've found some wheels that I really like. I'm just curious as to what size rims I can get away with on a 68 firebird. the fronts will have LS1 brakes and the rears will still be drum for now, but those will change over once I swap a better rear in. I'm not sure what offset it will need yet. 18 would be the largest I would go with. Would 18 X 8's fit in front and 18 X 9.5's fit in back, or should I just stick with a 17 inch rim. I have no clue how to figure out what size I could use. I was really liking the american eagle Boss 338's in black. thanks for any help.

after looking at the fitment database, It looks like I'll most likely have to go with 17's, it looks like people with 18's have aftermarket subframes.

and they don't make the style I want in 17's :bsjerk:

You can do 18s no problem. 8s on the front with 4.75BS. On the rear, you can run the 9.5. But you need to measure the overall width of the rear. Firebird rears can be 2 different widths. If it is 60.5" brake drum to brake drum, you need a 5.5BS. If it is 61.5" brake drum to brake drum you need a 6.0BS

awesome, thanks for the advice Frank. Maybe I should wait until I switch the rear over to disc before I order them so I don't have the wrong backspacing once the disc brakes are on. They actually have a picture of a 67 firebird on American eagle's site with the rims I want, just in grey, Now I'm excited again!

Don't worry about the disc brakes, they will only add a 1/8" to 3/16" at the most to the track width. You got more wiggle room then that.

You will probably have to grind the caliper.

The ls1 calipr those wheels curve in a lot and very fast.

Ahh, did not see anything about brakes or calipers, why I asked.

Those wheels do have a very minumal pad on them. So you will have to be careful of caliper clearance
