I'm getting ready to fix the crappy job I did years ago on my rusted out wheel wells. My quarters are in overall pretty good condition so I didn't want to replace the entire quarter. Plus we moved my rear end back about 3" so my top would close with full tubs installed. So now my wheelbase is about 3" longer than stock so full quarters don't line up. I used the three piece patch panel years ago and did a crappy job. So I went ahead and picked up a set of quarter skins so I can just cutout the wheel well area and weld that back in amd have a nice round wheel well.

So, my question is what's the best way to cut out the area from both the original quarters and the skins so I get a nice fit when I go to weld it up. I'd like to do a butt welld but and not opposed to a lap weld if that would be better for this situation. I assume if I did a lap weld to make the flange in the new quarter skin and put it behind the stock quarters. I'm not a expert welder but do pretty good.

Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated so I get it right this time around.
