Placed an order with Driverz Inc. on a set of 17'" VWW V-40's, needed them for a show this weekend and they shipped them 2 day air Wed. UPS delivered them today and my mother in law was here at my house as they were unloaded. She had to leave to get ready for a trip this evening but walked back to my house at 1:00 pm and they were still there. I got home from work at 3:45 pm and guess what? Yeah their gone! Noone saw anything and no I don't live in a crummy neighborhood. My mother in law should have had them unloaded into the garage but hindsight is 20/20. She feels terrible but I know that it isn't her fault, but if any of you guys see any VWW out there that are 17" with Nitto NT450 tires that look brand new please contact me. I have reported it to the police and contacted my homeowners ins. agency but with a $ 1000 deduct. and a $1985 purchase price it still hurts, not to mention it was the first time to get the car out this season.

Do you have any neighbors that might have been looking out for you and put them away somewhere for you?

I had the same thing happen with an expensive welder a few years ago. Luckily the company that I ordered it from sent me a new one because I never signed for the box.

Scott, really sorry to hear what happened today. I did not get a chance to call you back after our conversation, but like I said before, we will do everything in our power to help you out. If we need to place an order for a new set I will put a call into VWW and see if I can get you a little extra discount and get you into another set at our cost plus whatever extra discount we can get including tires. Call me Monday and I will see what strings I can pull.

Did your mother in law sign for them? If not you can try and put a claim in on UPS, also if she told the driver to just leave them on the porch i would think they will not pay then either but if he just DR'd the wheels (driver release) you may just get it paid by UPS.

Scott, I'm not sure if you recall but I talked to you briefly at Goodguys, I think in 2008. Loved those wheels you had on the car, and the original paint color.

Sorry to hear about this bit of bad luck, I really hope they turn up somehow. Best of luck.

Thanks alot,I'll contact you on monday to see what we can come up with.I found out my mother in law didn't sign for anything but she did speak to the driver. I guess it would have been better if she wouldn't have been there at all. On a more positive note I won a 2005 Chevy 2500 HD Duramax truck on e-bay tonight.

if i recall ups has a crazy policy about if product was properly packaged. I believe you have to have at least 2" of proper material around it. unless you have a cool ups driver. sorry to hear about that.

Well, congrats on the Duramax, but man what a bummer on the wheels, and you know that 2 day air'ing those wheels were not cheap, but I really wanted to make good on having your wheels there in time for your show this weekend. What a bummer. Like Justin said, call us on Monday and we'll be happy to do anything we can for you.

That is one of my worst nightmares for deliveries. I get alot of stuff dropped. And like you I live in an ok neighborhood. Its the smaller, high value boxes that I worry about. But s**t!!! Wheel boxes are large. You wouldn't expect the crooks to be ballsy enough (around here) to go for it.

Ok, ethically speaking. UPS is not to blame. Yeah, you could go that route. Say you didnt sign and file a claim. But then you place all the crooks behavior on the shoulders of the hard working UPS dude. And he is innocent, he did what his boss told him to do. Im against going that route, as Im sure you are too. Its just not right.

And any shipment you ship with UPS, you, as the shipper can request a signed delivery. So the seller is more responsible than the truck driver. And for the most part the purchaser will say to the seller, dont require a signature. Because most of us, like yourself are not home for the delivery. So it comes back on us, as the purchaser. But the seller should have given you the option. And I doubt they did. Im not blaming them. But they should start asking. Do you want a signed delivery.

A learning lesson for all of us. Slow down and request a signed delivery for expensive deliveries. UPS actually likes that for expensive packages. And all it delays is one day, maybe two. But they will keep the package for a few days waiting for your response after they leave a notification on the door.

Im really sorry to hear about the loss. Thats money that I cant afford to loose.

Ok, check the craigs listing, not just now, but keep on checking. Check them for three months. Do a search on ebay for the wheels and save the search. Your original search if detailed enough wont come up with any hits. They are specific wheels and not alot of them out there. So save the search and have it set so ebay emails you when the auction comes up. It may be two months from now. Now, if they are really stupid crooks they will mount them on their honda and love the new look, dumb asses. And you may never find them again.

It just pisses me OFF!! Idiots trolling the streets looking for the freebee. Those are the idiots that Id like to thump on for a lil bit then haul them down to the jail. Idiots that think if they see something in the open its up for grabs. I have a beating for them folks. Oh, and if anyone thinks a solid beating is out of line for an idiot like that Im sorry. Just the way I think.

An eye for an eye and a solid beating for theft from me. Im tired of the simple opportunists... JR

A friend had his car stolen, and recovered but without the wheels, the wheels showed up 2 months later on craiglist, from a local guy, a 3rd firnd went to check out the tires to not let on, and then contacted police.
The seller claimed he did not know they were stolen.
Owner got his wheels back, you just have to scour the 'net, just in case somebody slips up...
good luck i hope you get them back, i hate crooks.
:machine:
Check out local car hangouts, small wheel/tire shops, etc. I hope you had any special marking on those, although they are relatively rare to see.

i'm going to go out on a limb and say i disagree with jrouche. they arent my responsibility until my hands are on them. it is up to the driver to decide where to put them. at my old place, i would have to leave a signed note on the porch when i wasnt home or the driver wouldnt deliver. if the driver felt comfortable leaving them there and you didnt get them, i wouldnt feel bad filing a claim. it may not work, but i dont find it unethical.

also, does your mother in law live at your house? if not, why the hell would the ups driver listen to some woman claiming she knew you? you said she was there, but then said she walked back???

I didnt mean to imply it was anyones fault besides the crook that took them. He is completely at fault, the low life ******* that has a worthless life and saw the opportunity to lift the wheels. Im not trying to make the victim out as a part of the crime.

I was just trying to say that there is a way for future purchasers to reduce the drop and lift thefts. Require the shipper to get a signature for any high valued shipments. JR

Really?? I just saw the automatic screening device edited "basstard" with stars. Is the word "basstard" that bad now. Errr.. LOL

im not sure what the policy is, but i wouldnt think that a neighbor/mother-in-law could authorize them being dropped on your doorstep. if she was in your house and opened the door then its a different story.

Really!!! Come on. Do you have a mother in law. I wouldnt expect my MIL to hump those heavy boxes in the house. Hell, my MIL is 67 YO, she is lucky to haul herself outside for a smoke break. I cant even see my MIL or my own mom hauling in the boxes of wheels. I just wouldnt even ask them to. Wouldnt want them to. My wife? YUP. She could handle it. But my oldish MIL? Not even. Not even a thought I want to see. My old MIL breaking her azz to hustle those boxes in the house. LOL Not gonna happen... JR

Sorry to hear about your loss. Luckly I was home when they delievered my wheels cause that was a big worry for me. They left my prodigy bar setup leaning against my garage door which is about 50' from the street in plain view. I was pretty upset about that. I really hate those low lifes that have to steal to have something. Had my Escalade stolen on thanksgiving weekend and it was recovered without my month old 26" Asanti, stereo system, t.v. and 3rd row seats. Heres the really sucky part... Got heads up that the wheels where seen on another new Escalade at a strip club. So my brother calls me and tells me that it was up there and I was trying to do it the legal way so I call the cops and show them my reciept and point out markings that I know where there. They bring the guy out and he is telling lies after lies and the cops keep busting him in these lies. At the end he was able to go back in finish partying and I had to leave my hard earned wheels there cause I didn't know the serial number or had any engraved numbers. I should have followed my thoughts and just did it the street way. It just gets you down when you try to follow by the law it bites you in the a**!! Also Insurance said they would cover the wheels but when they got the reciept they completely backed out. So at the end I was at a complete loss for the original stolen wheels and what the replacement set cost me!! Don't got any love for thieves being from a piece of gum to the most valuable thing in the world..

You really need to find out if she signed for them. I used to work at UPS and if she did not then UPS is responsible for replacing them. Ask her, if she didn't you need to file a claim with UPS asap.

Nine Ball
04-20-2010, 07:45 AM
Wouldn't that depend on how they were shipped? When sending UPS, you have to tell them if you want a signature approval or not. I don't see how UPS is to blame if they did not require a signature. However, if signature was required, then UPS can be blamed here.

But, my ethics tell me this is not UPS's fault since there was indeed a witness that saw UPS deliver them. They did their job, they delivered the package. I would feel pretty shady if I made UPS claim on these knowing that fact, unless a signature was required. That is the purpose of the signature, to have someone take actual possession of the wheels.

I have no vendetta against UPS so don't take what I'm about to say that way. But ...

If someone left a bag of money containing a few thousand dollars on your front porch and just walked away, how long would you expect it to sit there, unattended.

Now, you couldn't tell me the UPS driver didn't know these were something very valuable being wheels and tires.

I've had the UPS driver drop off boxes of parts (and medication for my mother) on my front door and leave with me being home and didn't even bother knocking on the door to let me know he dropped something off! I called UPS to find out when they delivered and they were sitting there over 2 hours. I don't check out my door every 10 minutes and I'm sure nobody else here does, either.

I'm not saying UPS is totally to blame but when you leave valuables on someones front porch unattended and leave, who's fault is it?

SUNK69

Insurance is not going to cover one red cent but I don't have the time or patience to argue with them so I'll be looking for a new INS. company because they said that any car parts etc. are not covered.I currently have Tennessee Farm Bureau. Driverz Inc also took care of me on getting another set of wheels and tires ordered and this next set will, A. require a signature, and B. be unloaded into my garage. Thought about setting some empty boxes in front of my garage and watchin out for them again but who knows if they would come back or not.

lol, I dunno, I think she should have at least called him and asked if he wanted her to bring them inside. I know my 50 year old mom would have had no problem bringing the boxes in.

Hell, she could have called and asked if the boxes were valuable, and then "rolled" them into the house. Something.

You have a lazy driver in your area, then. I have the same UPS driver 99% of the time I order stuff, and he always rings the doorbell and knocks on the door. He's also kind enough to hide packages when nobody is home. There's a big bush/plant thing in front of my parents' house and he would always put packages behind that so if you looked at the house, all you'd see would be the plant.

Very sorry to hear that. I have UPS drop stuff at the door all time. Most of the time, they will drop it in the garage if its unlocked, otherwise, they drop it outside. I really wouldnt hold blame on anyone but the theives either.

The one thing I would do though is start plastering the neighborhood with a description and a reward. I would probaby hold out my personal info, and maybe just make up a new email account and post that info.

If some punk kids took em, it won't be hard for some of their friends to want money. Even if it was an adult, scumbags hang together and there is no loyality when it comes to money. Heck, even the douchebag that stole them may be dumb enough to try and get the reward.

Again, sorry to hear about that.

The rims and tires not mounted on the car would be considered personal property and be covered by your homeowners insurance minus your deductible. There is an exclusion for Motor Vehicle equipment and accessories, but if you read further down in the policy they take the exclusion back " The exclusion of property described above applies only while the property is in or upon the vehicle or conveyance." Parts not attached to the auto are considered personal property. Send me a copy of your homeowners policy or fax me the exclusions and I will take a look at it for you. I am a State Farm Insurance agent in NC.

Using Farm Bureau's reasoning, they should cover them under your auto policy under comprehensive, but I am telling you they are covered under your HO policy. Most all states use the same standard policy.

If I required a signature and he is not home, me night not end up with the wheels until the next day. This whole situation sucks. Justin, if I were you there is no way I would drop ship a set of $3000+ wheels to any customer at a residential location without a sig needed. If the customer bitched then have them bitch. Make them accountable and have a representative sign for the load.

It was not a lazy UPS driver, or poor UPS policy that allowed the shipment to get stolen.

It was a combination of some issues. Convenience getting in the way of security. And a crook that saw that convenience on ALL the parties sides. Convenient for him to lift the boxes from the driveway.

No WAY you can blame UPS. Its funny to even go that route. They only deliver, they arent a security company. You want security ask for it or provide your own. I get tired of victims pointing the finger at all the other sources.

People need to wake up and realize its not a soft lil cozy world out there.

So many report calls where the victim was pissed cause the laptop, ipod, cell phone or other loose piece of valuable item like a purse got ripped outta the car (locked or unlocked). And they were pissed cause they didnt take the simple precautions to secure their property. Peeps need to wake UP!! Its not the 50's. Take some responsibility for your own welfare. Secure your property. Invest in your own security, meaning use the common sense to take measures to secure your property, dont rely on others to do so. Id love to see some folks taking measures to secure their own property instead of falling back to have some one else do it. JR
