I have a set of billet R.A.R.E pulleys on my '69 Firebird and saw a write up in a magazine where they used an add-on crank pulley to run the A/C compressor. I spoke with R.A.R.E and they said the larger (76-81) style pulley should 'nest' in the billet 2 groove pulley I am currently using.

Has anyone used an add-on pulley? If so, do you have any details on the pulley?

The easy answer is a new 3 groove crank pulley, but they want $139 for one and the one I got is paid for!

I'd recommend you check over on Performance Years maybe. That's probably the best shot at getting specific info on the RARE pulley setup with and without AC. I tried those pulleys but had a clearance issue unrelated to AC (no AC in my car) and had to return them and go with a March system. They're great pulleys.

I originally had the March 3 groove pulley on my '69 even though I don't have a/c, but was planning for it in the future. I ended up switching to the RARE 3 groove stock size pulley. The March pulleys are under drive pulleys which will turn your water pump slower. I was having heating issues so that was a concern. The RARE pulleys also aligned better and I didn't need spacers like I did with the March. I think you should ebay your current one and go with the RARE 3 groove.

I talked to Paul at R.A.R.E. and he hooked me up with a 3V pulley to replace my 2V, which I just sold today to a guy on another forum.

I originally bought March stuff but returned them because they didn't line up for me.

R.A.R.E is the ticket!
