What are all the tall people running for racing seats? I like sparcos, but they don't seem to fit me quite right and I'm only 6'3". Any tall people care to share their seat experience?

I am using the Recaro Pole Position. They are a one piece seat that I have mounted on fabricated mounts basically so the base of the seat is almost on the floor. They are also a few inches back from the stock mounts. They are not on sliders, but fixed mounted. This enables me the leg room I need as well as head room so I can fit comfortably with a helmet.

I am 6'3" and about 230. As I get fatter in my old age, the seats are getting tighter.

I have Sparco Milanos (the tallest seats I found) in my GTO. They are mounted on customized Wedge Engineering mounts that lower the seat mounts about 2 inches and move it back 3 from the factory seat mount location. The relocated mounts and the thinner seat give me the clearance I need. I am 6'4" and this setup gives me about an inch and a half between my head and the headliner. Just enough for a helmet. :)

I haven't bought them yet, but based on sitting in Chad's '68, will be buying the Arizen seats and flat mounts. I have also acquired a new seat pan and fileted it to sit lower. I may move it back some to when I cut the old one out. THis is the only way I can see getting requsite head clearance for a helmet. If you didn't guess by my username, I am 6'9".

LArry has Arizen seats in Motiv8r and likes the fit as well.

Thanks for the responses. I figure custom brackets are just part of the process for aftermarket seats. I ditched my factory headliner a long time ago in favor of inserts and spatter paint so I have some head room.

The big issue with the sparcos I tried was the holes in the seatback being way to low. In addition to the other "tall" modifications, anyone using "tall" seats?

On mustangs, they are removing the seat pans, lowering them by an inch. That's what they did in my 68 coupe and then placed Procar Elite seats. I'm only 6' 2" but have plenty of head room

FWIW, Shipka removed his seat platforms completely.

Thought about it, but still wanted something which allowed the incline of the seat for support of the thighs. Bolting it flat would make seating akward, at least from what I can tell.

corbeau legacys. most seats i sat in were too narrow across the kidney supports. these fit real good. i made custom non adjustable brackets that sit about 1" off the floor. btw, im 6'4" 225.

i may have the headrest reshaped when the interior gets done. they arent the tallest seat, but a couple inches off the top would make them fit the chevelle a little better.

Sparco Chrono Roads fit me well---I'm 6'4-245--I need to drop them down about an inch still---especially since I will need to wear a helmet now and then.

Hey you should all check out the Corbeau CR1 Wide. I have them in a Mustang and they are very comfortable for me. I am 6'4 and 235lbs. Everyone from tall to short that has ridden in my car has loved them. Heres a link http://corbeau.com/products/reclining_seats/cr1/........ whatever you do make sure you sit in whatever seat you choose before you buy.

I was about to bolt the sliding brackets directly on the floor, just with some shims to level them, but I think I will rather make some custom brackets now that I have started to learn welding.

My main concern is like what you're saying the low harness holes in the seatbacks. My shoulders are right at or just a little above the top of the hole. It would probably cause my spine to severely compress in case of a crash... not good... Any comments on that guys?

Btw. I'm 6'6 and 220
