bad ingnition tumbler?
well I went out to try and start my 79 trans am but it would not start.
all the lights worked so not battery .
I think it has something to do with the key mechanism ?
if you turn it I get the usuall buzzers but when it is in the on position nothing happens, car can go into gear.
I tryed for a while to get it to work and it finally cranked until I let off the key but I can't get it to do anything.
What do you think it could be?
car started a few weeks ago but won't now car has been in garage since October.

Neutral Safety switch would be my first guess. If the car is a column shift it will be under the dash on the column. You can remove the plug from it and jumper the purple wires together and see if it will start.
I don't know where it will be if it is a console shift.Brad Shepard

try adjusting neutral safety switch on the column. usually white or blue and 3" long on GM applications. if it is a non chip key (late 80's & earlier), the tumbler simply turns. the only way they go bad is when they dont turn or internally wear out.
