This past weekend I seen on the POWERBLOCK on tv, the TRUCKS crew putting in a round 7" L.E.D. headlamp in a old 49-50 Chevy truck.
Stated they got it from a company that does JEEP off road stuff.
Has anyone seen or heard if they are going to make one for the G-bodies to fit the 4652 and 4651 style headlights?
Seemed to be plug a play, no transformers and a VERY BRIGHT!!
thanks

I have them in my new jeep and love them..If i drove my camaro at night more than the little time that i do i would also have a set in there..If you look at some of the Jeep web sites you can find them a little cheeper.

The trucklite ones are what I am running. They are plug and play, draw less than 5 amps on high beam (I think), and will fit anywhere a 7" sealed beam does.
They do protrude out from the bucket quite a bit. If you imagine a sealed beam with a curved lens the led don't stick out any further than that, however the leds have a flat lens and go straight out front the retaining ring. The leds seem to be more sensitive to adjustment than a regular sealed beam.
My only real complaint with the leds is soemthing called "throwback".....you know how road signs are reflective? The leds seemingly washout out the lettering, making it hard to read. HIDs don't do that. Other than that the visibility at night is great.
It should be noted that I failed the eye test to get my drivers permit 15 years ago and have only gone to the eye doctor to dig metal out of my eyes.......

So at this time the options seem: the 7" round design, and 5x7, 5k Kelvin for color range, and 1,300 lumens (specs of the 5x7 with 2 arrays).
A conventional H4 bulb is near 900 lumens, and Xenon pressurized are at 1,200 lumens on low beam (Phillips xtreme, Osram nightbreaker), and near 2,000 on high beam.
Most HID at 4,300 Kelvin produce about 3,000 lumens.
Edit: noted the 5x7, 2 are reflector style, dif than forward facing..

The 7" reflector: http://www.truck-lite.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&productId=92025&langId=-1
I have used H4 designs for years, and it is the one with the most variety of bulbs available, in wattages, and color degrees.
I would like to some more specs/comparisons on how the LED version actually perform. Specifically how they form the low-beam pattern vs high beam.
I think it is great they are coming to market, I would like to see how these develop.
I myself would prefer a lower Kelvin degree coloration, the bluer they get, the more useless it is on wet roads, or recently paved roads.

I have the new JW LED's in the car now. I'll have more details soon on the mounting and wiring (super easy), but suffice it to say that these are far better than the Hella glass 100/90 watt components that were in the car in every way.

This time next year I'm sure there will be more, cheaper and better options. Still they look pretty cool.

I picked up my truck lites for $195 each at my local uap/napa store [Canadian]. I am sure they would go right in anywhere a 7" round would go. H4 plug on the end. They seem very high quality.

Here is a link to the models JW Speaker offers, with detailed specs.

5x7" rectangular

Truck Lites 7" round
http://www.truck-lite.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&productId=92025&langId=-1
Most of these lamps are listed around 1,300 lumens (high beam), the Truck Lites 7" are the highest, specs state 770/1,770 Lumens for low/high beam, relatively close to the top Halogen bulbs, depending on color range used.
For comparison here are some numbers on the H4 bulbs:
In no particular order, but both are good sources
http://www.rallylights.com/Hella_H4_Bulbs.aspx
Phillips Xtreme (listed as 2,100 L)
http://www.rallylights.com/detail.aspx?ID=5011
Osram Lumen output (all), Nightbreakers listed as 1,780, near bottom of page)

Hella E-Codes are hands down the best traditional headlamp I have ever seen/used. I have them on my R1 Mini. Insanely bright, and will accept an HID kit with proper beam cutoff and will not blind other drivers...

I need to get sets for my other cars, the Camaro especially, its like driving without lights! You should be able to find a set on Jeep sites...

Go for it. I use them for years already with just regular H4's and I don't feel the need to go over to HID. Small investment.

Try www.talbotco.com and http://www.danielsternlighting.com They both sell the composite light as opposed to the sealed beam which will allow you to add an LED bulb, regular H4, or HID but with the proper light spread.
Both sites have Cibie brand lights as well. Whether it's Hella or Cibie, the way to go for "off-road" use only is e-code which will have the proper beam cutoff.

Those are pretty sweet looking man. Anyone know if these will work on a chevelle or el camino? Im sure they are $$ but interested in seeing what it would take to make work...thoughts??

Where can you get the LED bulbs? With h4 connection?

Honestly I'd just stick with HID's, they put out a good 1.5-2x the light as LED headlights.

72elco they should fit your car. may need to mod the radiator support. i know ironworks put them in a 1970 chevelle.

darkonova putting a pnp hid kit in is the wronq way to do things. reflector housings are not designed to control the light output.

Oh believe me, I wasn't implying to just buy HID's and throw them in the stock housings. I hate when people do that and have been blinded by that crap multiple times.
I was saying that a good retrofit of actual HID projectors is about the same price and yields much more light output.
