I believe I've decided to go with the Dakota Digital gauges over the Autometer gauges for my custom instrument panel in my 86 Cutlass.

The Autometer gauges are a proven quality product. The Sport Comp Digital gauges I was looking at are nice gauges. But, they don't offer all the optional features the DD gauges do.

The DD Ion Series gauges 6 gauges setup (Ion-50-1) will fit in my small space the Cutlass requires. They also have several features, some that the Autometer gauges don't. DD has features such as turn/hi beam indicators, odometer with 2 resetable trips, gear position indicator for manual trans, speed and rpm overspeed/shift indicators & warnings, several performance calculations include: 0- 60 time, high speed & high RPM recall, 1/4 mile time and speed.

Does anyone have any good or bad experiences with Dakota Digital gauges?

Anyone here a dealer for them?

Thanks for any input offered.

Doug

Not yet. But I am planning to run either their panel display or individual gauges. Not sure yet.

For what it is worth, I have Dakota Digital in my 67 camaro and like them just fine / have had no issues.

Thanks Steve. So far I've heard no horror stories.

I have DD in both of my cars and I'm pretty happy with their performance. They're easy to wire up and I especially like the ability to adjust the speedo by pushing a button if I swap out tires or gears.

Herb do you have the vechicle specific set or the universal set? I've been looking at either the Ion series 6 gauge set or the specific set for my Cutlass. There are pros and cons for each but the main ones are the universal set has a 2 year warranty and the specific set has a limetime warranty plus the fact the specific set (for my application) is $70 higher. Both sets have basically the same options. Also, the universal set wires up like individual gauges and the specific set uses the microprocessor box (which I suspect is the reason for the added $70 cost). The specific set can also have the speedo/tach bar graphs covered which I will have done. I don't care much for the bar graph display.

Thoughts?

Thanks

The set in the Elky is a universal because we made a custom dash...

The set in the Chevelle fits the stock dash...

I like the Chevelle's gauges better because the computer has a G meter built in whereas the Elky's gauges are much older and don't have that feature.

Thanks guys. I looks like I'm gonna splurge and get the set for my Cutlass instead of the universal ones.

Anybody here a dealer for Dakota Digital?

I bought directly from Dakota Digital, infact I'm so close to them I went right to their office. Great to work with, made my custom panel up just the way I wanted it. I'll be going back to them for more.

I'm going to buy direct from DD I guess. When I talked to them the other day, the guy said I could have the speedo and tach bar graphs blanked out and I'd also like the automatic selector blanked out since I'm running a 6 speed. I don't see where I can have these blanked out ordering online. Looks like I'll have to call them again.

I've talked to several guys on other forums and not one person has a bad thing to say about them.
