I have a 67 Camaro and I am looking to slightly modify the gas pedal linkage. The bar that I am looking to modify it the bar the runs vertical on the firewall (engine side). I need to notch the bar a bit so there is about 1/4" more clearance (it touches the head right now). I am doing this because I can't quite get the linkage bar to pull the throttle blades from closed to fully open on WOT. If I notch that bar it will give me a little more play with the adjustment.

I would like to remove the bar itself, but from looking at it I need to probably disassemble the pedal linkage completely. I see there are two bolts on the inside of the car where the gas pedal goes through the firewall. Do I just remove these two bolts? What are the two bolts connected to? Fixed nuts or loose nuts? There is minimal room between the back of the cylinder heads and the firewall so it's very tight on the engine side.

I need to know the easiest way to remove that bar so I can take a grinder to it and notch it.

I know this might be a silly question, but I like to know what I am getting into when working with such tight spaces like this.

Any diagrams you have would help :)

Thanks,
Brian

There should be a bolt through the end of the piece you are talking about that clamps it on to the shaft that comes through the firewall. Loosen that bolt and it should come off.

Do I only need to loosen the bolt or remove it? If I have to remove it I doubt I will ever get it back on. I only have a small amount of room between the firewall and the head.

just loosen it and pull it off.

if you mess up the one you have for some reason or another I have one ready to go on my e bay table.

Give a call to Smith RaceCraft in Texas.....they offer several configurations of gas pedals and linkage.......unreal quailty.
They have about three for Camaro's and some for Novas...all using the two factory firewall holes. Best stuff I ever seen....Ask for Andy and tell him JC told you to call......wish I had a picture to post but I dont...www.smithracecraft.com
