swaping from pedal ebrake to handle ebrake????

i have a 69 camaro with a foot ebrake to rear discs and i basically hate it. It makes it very difficult to use the ebrake to swing the rear end around.

Im looking for a kit, or the knowledge on how to swap the foot ebrake for a handle one like in most new cars.
Is there suck a kit out there or does anyone know how this would be done. I have some ideas, but id like to get a better grasp on the concept b4 i start doing this to my camaro.

While I haven't completed this I wanted to do the same thing. I have a Chevelle but its the same basic concept as your Camaro. I was looking at Lokar but didn't like to small round handle so I decided to hit the junk yard to see what was out there. What I ended up with was a BMW 7 series from the late 90's handle and cables. Its a nice leather wraped handle and a simple mounting base. I also pulled the cables but the ends that attatch to the brakes will not work and the length is wrong. If you can find somone to modify the factory BMW cable you can possible tie into the original rear cables. If you upgraded (I have LS1 brakes) it will probably mean a set of Lokar or custom cables.

Someone had a Camaro that had a cable from each rear wheel come up to the end of the drive shaft tunnel. It had a bracket and attatched to a single cabe that went forward to the center mounted handle. I think it was all Lokar stuff but I dont remember what handle they used.(The BMW stye has two cable all the way to the handle)

here is a pic of the BMW handle I snagged of the internet. Check eBay and you can find them for $20-$50.

I also looked into it and one thing that might get in the way is your driveshaft. It all depends on how much your Camaro is lowered.

Do you have an automatic or a stick?

I find it interesting when others want to put flat spots on the tires especially really expensive tires with very little tread to begin with.

I too used to like the concept you have and after a few times realized it was just a show off kind of thing that really wasn't all that useful and required a lot of coordinating that is hard to master.

If you have an automatic it is not as easy to do because of the converter stall speeds but if you have a stick you can basically do the same thing by just going to 1st and letting the clutch out at the speed you are able to do the manuver in the 1st place. You will also be in first gear and ready to hit the gas once the rear is around. All of it can happen very quickly and is how some professionals do those fancy u turns you sometimes see so easily. Using the e brake to make the same manuver cannot be done with the same amount of control as using just the engine braking method.

Dave Pozzi is the one who really woke me up to the 1st gear trick and it really made more sense the more I thought of it.

You can do what you like but I left my pedal right where it was and am happier for it. Less fab work, it is out of the way and much easier to use even with my cage. You get more leverage with your foot and it really made a difference this fall when I parked in a friends drive that was steep. I would have had a hard time getting the car to stay if I had to rely on my arm to get that kind of pressure.

This is just another way of looking at it and without information and opinions how would any of us ever know both sides. So take it for what it is worth to you and go from there.

I got my cable to do the modification to my C4 rear setup from Inlinetube and have had no problems at all.
