17 or 18

i have a 1988 monte carlo ss.....and i cant decide on 17's or 18's. I have 16's (16x7, 16x8) on there now. what are the pros and cons of the 17's and the 18's (ride quality...etc)

go with 17's. in my opinion anything larger than a 17 on a g-body looks ridiculous. but asthetics aside... you can run a taller tire on a 17 which gives you more sidewall which in turn results in a much better ride. my buddy went from 17's to 18's on his trans am and the ride quality was shot.

I have to agree, anything bigger than 17 is too big. I have 17X8 in front & 17X9.5 out back.

18x8 and 18x10 on mine and I went from 16's also....big difference in ride......mucho more harsh now but my suspension isn't exactly soft either

I plan to go with a little taller tire in the back but I went with what I could squeeze until I get around to a frame notch

245/40/18 front and 275/35/18 rear.....plan on a 295/35 or a 305/35 after the frame notch...might have to massage the wheelwells a bit too :) and thanks....I love the way it looks even though "Everyone has TT2's" LOL

18's have a greater selection of widths and aspect ratios to choose from.
