Guys , i got my new rushforths on, 18x10 with 5.75 b/s.... i got big problems...the tires are sitting hard on the 'hump' just above the lip??? I have heaps of room on the inside where i coulda had a better b/s???????. The lip is trimmed up to miss the tire , but then above that it rubs hard on the hump up and in there...
diff is moser 12 bolt /drum brakes. Pretty dissapointing...

A buddy had that problem and he was able to have his rim trimmed on the inside, it worked for him but not forsure if I would have do that.
Gavin, That backspace should clear all day long and is what we always do for 69 Camaros so it should definitely fit in there. Are you running 275/40s?
These are 40+ year old cars where all kinds of things happen to them along the way, let alone somebody on the assembly line on Friday in a hurry to get to happy hour but that wheel should fit in there. Could your Moser be on the wide side?

Like Jay said, what's your WMS-WMS measurement on your axle housing? Typically disc conversions in the rear will move the wheels out another 1/16" to3/16" or so depending on the kit, so be sure to factor that into the solution...whatever that ends up being.
Fitment issues aside, your car looks damn nice with the new shoes IMHO. Good luck tracking down the source of the problem and finding the best solution.

Agree with Jay & Tobin, that b/s should fit all day long....gotta be the rearend.
I run the same 18x10 Superspokes you have with 5.625" b/s and I have no issues, standard GM 12-bolt.I could actually run 1/4" spacers (sometimes I do) to pull them out a bit further.

Jason Rushforth and I was discussing this the other day. We always do 6.0 BS. 5.5 on a 9.5 puts the other profile of the tire at the maximum , only extra room with a 10 is to the inside. The outer wheels house hum is more of a interference that the lip on orginal quarters.
If safe mat, anyone doing any rim size can deduct 4" from the rim size (not the overall width), but the actual rim size, and get the correct B as you always have to protect the outer wheel profile with the panel.
So if doing a
8" Wheel, 4" BS
9" Wheel, 5" BS
9.5" Wheel, 5.5" BS
10" Wheel, 6" BS

IS that a new rear? is it 60.5?

thanx guys for the advice... the rear is one of moser 'crate' rears they list..complete with brakes etc. are these diffs the same width? i thought they were .
todays update is - i tried to beat that damn hump under there and cracked the paint on the guard well and good. so now i will get a new rear quarter fitted and 'tweak' it while its off if thats at all possible. It did need doing down the track , but circumstances have changed :pat:
I love the wheels Jason by the way ,, its the cars variables that have beat me.. being so low dont help me none either

I completely agree with Jason's statement here. We run that 5.75" backspace all day long, and have not had any issues with that fitment, with a 275.
Gav, this is like one of my nightmares coming true. I can sympathize. We're compelled to piece together so many random parts for these old cars, who knows where it all ends up in the end.
Hope you're able to resolve.

Do you think if i replace the rear quarter and outer wheelhouse it can be tweaked to tuck the tire better?. By some kinda modification? This is where im at.. I think because its had a bingle and repair previosly in that quarter its maybe not to factory spec and not in original position...thats my guess.

You need to measure that rear and see how much more you can go inboard. You said you have lots of room. As well you should. The extra 1/4" would make a real difference.
Wat size are the tires?

I would have to say im kinda freaking out because I just got my 10" rushforths in with a 285 but the car is on my rotissory atm and I just finished painting my stock rearend which is 60" and with all the research I have put in I shouldn't have a problem as long as the lips are folded as I did. So i would say your new rearend is probably 60.5 like it was previously posted. as for modifying your quarter and outer wheel well gl I just replaced both my inner and outer and full quarters so If you try adding a spacer between the inner and outer like a 1/2" to push out the quarter, the quarter might not line up at the bottom at the rocker but Im sure you could do a little metal work and filler to make it work out. Well gl buddy I just got the same wheels in a few weeks ago I love them they are beautiful I cant wait to get them on the car. Could I trouble you in taking a few full lenght car pictures with them on :) Oh did you do a 3" drop from hotckis? Anyways GL

Another option is to find a local machine shop with a mill. Remove the tires from the wheels, and have them mill off some more on the backside of that mounting pad. That is, if you have enough meat back there to allow the conical seats still have some material left under them. Post a pic of the backside of the lug pad, looking into a lug hole. We could look and see if it could be machined further.
Also note your brake caliper clearance before doing any machining. As you mill that pad, the caliper gets closer to the spokes.

60.5 WITH brake drum. 60: flange to flange.
My bet it the rear is right.

thanx Nineball, i got drums back there... I did have a look at this yesterday and i probably could get away with a little off the back pad. I will fix the rear quarter first and see if i can get things back to square 1 ..I think it all comes from a repair from previous owner ..The panel was not pushed out to the factory position ..I can see hammer marks up in wheel house area.

Gav your car looks killer with the new wheels. Sorry about the 1/4 panel and wheel fitment problem.

Gotta love old cars and their sloppy tolerances too. I had a set of 10" wheels with 285 tires that fit perfectly fine on an original axle and original body 69. Swapped them onto another buddy's car with original axle and original panels, and they rubbed. Neither car had been wrecked before. Chalk it up to 1969 build tolerances, sometimes.

yeah, car looks great. Too bad about the craking of the paint. You'll get there. Love those Rushforth wheels!
I'm sick to my stomach at the thought of your quarter panels, Gavin. I'm so sorry to hear that.
Some good suggestions and advice here though. Nineball/ Tony's is my favorite but we only recommend taking 3mm off of the pad and that likely won't get you where you need to be.
I'm not sure how hard it is to get a rearend narrowed there, but if it were my car, that's exactly what I'd do.
If you must hang new quarters, you can almost certainly gain the extra clearance you need that way but I hate to see you do all that work.
Good luck, Gavin and please keep us posted and ask any questions you might have.
I don't know if this has been mentioned but keep in mind if you go disc brakes there later (not sure if you drums now) but that may also increase your track width and compound the problem.

When I did the rear end of my Camaro I cut out those stupid "humps" from the outer tub and welded flat sheet metal in their place. I made my wheel opening lips fairly thin to fit big tires "out" as far as possible but found that those humps would interfere. It really frees up some space when the tire rides that far up in the wheel well.

thats exactly what my plan is....do you have any pics of the mods ? I thought some guys had done this as i have seen plenty of cammys with low rears and tires tucked up and under. So the outer wheelhouse will be modded..Thanks for the confidence !

Jason, its all good my end , i love the new rims ..Its just previous mods (in the US) before i imported the car were badly done and im sure the left side wasnt pushed outward as much as it should have been.. But it wouldnt have mattered as it had skinny wheels then. So my desicion has just been moved foward to set things right ...and hey i get to change the colour !
