Well after our local RTTH (Run Through The Hills) event here in TN this year I decided the interior was the next important thing that needed to be changed. We did the "Tail of The Dragon" (A stretch of road in the mountains that has 318 curves in 11 miles) for our cruise and My interior was the stock Leather 40-40 pillow back buckets that were worse than a couch! I literally almost got sick from sliding back and forth the whole time. So I decided to tackle this job myself seeing that I've done upholstery since I was 13 (now 42).. Time to get rid of the "Grandma Gray" interior and go ALL BLACK!! Seeing NO GN's or Turbo Buick's ever came with a black interior I TOOK THE PLUNGE!!!

Here is my start with some before pictures..

The start of dying the dash.. Used SEM dye from Eastwood and it turned out to be some pretty good stuff!

To finish dying the dash corectly I have to have the windshield taken out to be able to dye the front face of the dash corectly and a new windshield put back in.

I decided on a set of PRO-CAR "ELITE" Seats. These came in the mail the next day after ordering them from Summit and I have to say these are some real nice seats for the money. Very well made and nice quality.

Right now the inserts are being changed out to the matching Alcantera Suede micro fiber material to help with the sliding while in the twisties!! :)

The back seats will then be made to match the fronts..

A little more progress done. Test fitting the seats before being taken apart to be re-upholstered..

Very nice... what are you using to dye the dash parts?

Very nice... what are you using to dye the dash parts? SEM "Landau BLK" from Eastwood.

First I wipe everything down with Laquer thinner to remove any crud, Then I went over it again with a scotchbrite pad then back over everything with Laquer thinner again.

Do about 5 thin mist coats untill it's all covered real good and let it dry. Shouls turn out great.

I can't believe that you changed out the "Theater Seating" you enjoyed in your Type T!

I can't believe that you changed out the "Theater Seatinig" you enjoyed in your Type T! Hi Mike! Yeah the "Theater Seating" had to go after our trip through the Dragon!! lol Swaying back and forth was like Chinese torture..

With these seats and the suede inserts I should be good to go. Next is the brakes, Methanol injection kit, Lowering the car a bit too.

Okay the new ProCar ELITE seats are now done with suede inserts to match the doorpanels and other stuff. Please keep in mind the seats have not yet been steamed or heatgunned to get the wrinkles out but once that is done they should look nice and smooth.. Still have some ways to go but the bigest hurdle is over. Time to install and clean up...

Looks like you took the Grandma out of that car! I love it... I have a black interior too... it was pea green before.

I can't wait to ditch these factory buckets though.

Looks great:worship: Those seats should hold you in place MUCH better then those old granny pillow tops. Whoever came up with that design seat covers :slap: glad they aren't used anymore. Is that carpet a premolded piece, or did you make it yourself? Which ever it is, it looks great. Did you completely make new covers for the seats, or did you just replace the inserts. If I had to guess, I would say you made them, correct? I know you made the rear, and panels. You do some excellent work. Nice job, can't wait till I start redoing my monte interior.

Joe

Actually after looking at the last new pic, I see the tag is still in the factory seam. So I am changing my guess to; you just change inserts?

And I am sure there are plenty of guys willing to pick up the "old" front seats and rear cover too. I am curious where did you find the Alcantera Suede micro fiber? I have been looking for some in bulk roll to do a headliner and door inserts. That really made your car beautiful!!!

Thanks for the compliments!
