My 67 'Bird had no front/rear side marker/turn signals. They didn't add them until 68. I have an idea to add them to my 67. But I'm curious if they must be amber in the front and red in the rear since that's how they are done now. Or can they both be red siunce this is a "custom" application where no lights existed originally.

Red in back ,amber or white in front, It's the law !!!!!

I am glad to see you are going to add them , lots of cars got hit in the side rear crossing intersections and waiting for traffic to clear when making a left turn.

That's what I thought. White/amber in front will requre a little different mod but will work out.

Thanks

Wow, I have never heard of anyone adding the lights. It always seems like people are trying to delete them.

It's a smart idea and he is on the safe side of style instead of the crashed side !

Basically my plan is to use standard 68 Pontiac arrow head lights in the rear. Then use a mold product I found to make a clear version of the 69 rear bird markers to replace the normal metal bird emblems on the front. I can then wire these to use double lights to work as both side markers and turn signals.

You're adding lights to a car that didn't have any to begin with not swapping them where some already exist. That would be like saying if you retrofit lapbelts in a 50s car, you need to add shoulderharnesses too. Besides, not too many LEOs are going to know what was original to the car, or even care.

BTW, here's basically what you're talking about doing:

Thanks for posting that pic 68. I figured someone would have done it by now. I just need to decide if I want the original red or an amber/clear version on my car.

The front lens can be clear or amber but the bulb behind the clear lens will be amber and vise versa.

Don't worry about it being anything other than safer as it is really the right thing to do and I have plans to do my 67 with some lights in a bit different way but at night you will see me from the side.

Reason for amber /red differential is so the other driver can see which way a stationary car is pointed and it MAY move. So amber front red rear.
