Smooth lip wheels look larger then stepped, due to the larger windows inside. Some people love this look (I do), some prefer the old school look of a lip...
I have these on my 66 GTO:

I get great feedback on them constantly, and even twice had people driving by slam on their brakes, park and ask me wide-eyed what brand the wheels are. They also make brands with a lip but otherwise identical design that you'll see if you peruse the site...

Smooth lip wheels locate that ridge further inboard, usually in the way of larger rotors and calipers. The templates for each are different, check your brake rotor/caliper clearances for each type of wheel you look at. As an example, a step lip 17" needs an 18" smooth lip to clear the same brakes.
