How screwed am I? (4 Link and mini-tub is it to late?)

I bought a 68 Camaro with rust damage in the inner rear wheel wells. Took it to a body guy and spent a **** load of money to replace what amounted to the entire back end.

Well much to my displeasure I was completely unaware (at that time) of the option to mini-tub the car, or throw a 4 link into the rear end. I know, I know, I know!!!.

Well live and learn. The car is almost back together and completed. I have spent to much money to go backwards from here. I know that I am never going to be truly happy with the car with the stock rear end. So one day I want to swap out that rear end.

I might never mini-tub it, but are there any options out there to put a 4 link in the car (a couple of years from now) with out hacking on a bunch of the sheet metal work I already payed through the nose for?

It seems that all the 4 link swaps I have seen require a large portion of the existing trunk pan to be cut out and reworked etc.

Also, knowing now that I may one day put a 4 link in the car what should I do now, (before the car goes into paint), to save myself some drama later?

Its alright to tell me I am screwed, I have a feeling that I am. But DSE seems to be hacking on thier car all the time and some how never screws up the paint....

      Thanks!

You're not screwed at all. The DSE mini tubs can be installed on a completed car without effecting the quarters. I installed mine when I did the quarters so it was easier, but like I said...they can be done at any time.

As for a rear suspension, the prodigy bar and the Alston G-link kits both weld onto the frame rails and don't require any cutting of the floor at all. They are both triangulated 4-link kits. If you want to see the prodigy bar..check out my build thread as I have one installed in mine.

Give Frank or Andrew (I think that's their new guys name) a call at www.gpsuperstore.com and they will hook you up. Frank goes by ProdigyCustoms on here. Here's a link to the prodigy set up: https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=46674

I was in the exact same situation. After I finished the quarters of my '68 I decided to widen the inner tubs. Doing them after the fact is probably a minor amount of extra work, but not bad at all.

Wow, Mike should be on the payroll, LOL! Not much more for me to add that was not covered. I would mini tub now (only $400) and you Do Not have to fill those tubs with tire right now. Get the major fab handled and get the car finished. Then save you money and do a under car suspension (meaning installs under the car without gutting the car or cutting into the car) like Prodigy Bar, Chris Alston, Speedtech Torque Arm and do it later.

      Like Frank said ,
Minitub it now , and add an articulated 4-link or torque arm.
You can upgrade tires and brakes later..

Also, if your not dead set on a 4 link, our torque arm conversions don't require any cutting either. 4 holes to drill through the frame rails and everything bolts into place. To see how everything mounts check out a few cars at this thread: https://www.pro-touring.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=60641

Sorry to be dredging up old posts but I'm a newbie to the forum and actually wanted to search first! I'm thinking about a chicken-and-egg scenario--I'm thinking about mini-tubbing (which I would farm out) and doing a new bolt-in coil over rear suspension (which I would like to do myself). Is it possible to send the car out for mini-tubbing but NOT have to get rid of the leaf springs right away? Thank you in advance.

No problem, Mini tubs do not require they be filled with tire right away. You just will not be able to get anymore tire then a stock tub uuntil we do SOMETHING with that rear suspension.

But yes, we have mini tub many cars that leave on stock tub size tires waiting for suspension, tire and wheel money for another day.
