i want to tig weld the trim to the body on my continental- A buddy of mine is telling me its going to crack but ive done it before. I just used stainless filler rod and it was fine. Is it going to crack down the road? We did it at a shop I worked at a few years back but i havent seen the car since to check on it

It will be fine, assuming good welding technique.

The stainless filler should have enough nickle in it to help the weld stay fairly ductile.

Use 309L wire. Best for dissimilar metals.

I would use some silicon bronze rod . Much lower heat .And when welding stainless and mild I'm pretty sure you use mild rod . The mild will pick up the nickel .

No, 309L is what you need to use.
