Aluminum glovebox to mount ECU, MSD, electronics

I've been trying to decide where to mount the ECU, ignition box, and associated relays for my project 67 Camaro. They need to be hidden, but easily accessible, so I came up with a idea for a neat little aluminum glovebox insert that would support the electronics and make them easily accessible while helping to clean up the firewall. It uses the stock mounting holes in the dash and has a trough area above the opening to run the harness through. So please look at the attachments and tell me what you think!

One quick question, my holley commander 950 isn't supposed to be mounted right next to the ign. box. is that going to be a problem with your setup?I do like the idea and would be marketable.

Thanks for the feedback! I've been running my DFI unit right beside the MSD box for over a year with no problems. I've never used a Holley commander though.

I'm getting some more of these CNC lasered up and press brake formed right now. How about $75 with the stainless hardware?

Any idea if a Vintage Air A/C unit would clear this?

I can't recall if a Vintage Air unit takes up part of the glove box space.

If it will clear the stock glovebox, it will clear this. I installed one in a car with factory AC and had to trim the sides of the aluminum to clear the duct work, but I was able to make it fit.

I mounted my MSD in a similar position, any issues with feedback through the stereo? I have concerns about the coil being that close to the stereo head unit?

I mounted my coil on the engine and MSD box in the dash beside the ECU like you see in the picture. Drove it like that for a few months before I decided to take the car back apart for paint. Didn't have a problem with interference or anything else for that matter.

I was concerned about where to mount everything because Im keeping it a street car, and adding DFI, stereo, etc. and I wanted to keep it all neat. To me, this is definitely the best option

Im running a 434ci SBC with an AOD behind it. My ultimate goal is to make this car a 9 second (on spray) true pump gas street car. I'm planning on having the dfi handle everything, like fans, fuelpump, progressive nitrous activation, and even trigger the overdrive. This is the first time running DFI.. Ive wired in a bunch, which is what sparked my interest intially, but I'm really looking forward to tuning with it.

As far as the website... thanks for the compliment. I have to update the site though, I have some badass cars that I havent put up there yet. Here in Long Island, the first real cold weather hit this past week or so, now everyone is calling for remote starts :)

I'm glad that I found this thread. I was able to replicate this and install my Holley Terminator X. Thanks for sharing, although I realize that this thread is very old.

I like this idea but did not want to completely lose my glove box. I modified the orginal glove box insert to fit around my ECU mounted on the original heater box. Not as nice as what many have done here but hopefully will work for me.

I think that is a pretty nice solution. Clean, simple, and you still have a usable glove box. Most people would never notice the change if the glove box was opened.

It wasn't difficult. I was able to do it with folding and cutting in the right areas. Make sure to make tabs to fold over for stapling like the OEM. I stapled and glued the tabs in place. If you fold and cut (sharp thin blade is essential) it to make it seal the bottom edges you won't have any gaps for things to fall through. Here is a picture of the inside.

I mounted my OBDII port to the bottom so that it is out of the way but also easily accessible.

Looking to do something similar, but make the glove box insert out of sheet metal vs cardboard. Figure a way to mount it, those cardboard glove boxes are only so strong.

With the metal plate the cardboard is sandwiched between the ecu and plate
