Im looking for a 12 bolt rear end for my 67 GTO and i see alot of 68 and up housings for sale but not much for 67 and earlier. So what is the difference? Is it overall width? Mounting locations? Will a 68-72 housing bolt in and work in my 67?

Yep, the later A-body housing will work. I believe the difference is that it was 1" wider over all. As long as you haven't purchased wheels yet, you can have them add in an extra 1/2" of backspace to make up the difference.
The mount points and spring locations should be the same as the earlier A.
