View Full Version : rear rotor touching caliper bracket

Am in the process of installing the rear wilwood disc brakes on my car. Ran into a issue with the rotors touching the caliper bracket when they are fully seated against the axle flange. I have a shortened rear diff from moser but it almost seems like the axles are a 1/4 to short. I can remove the caliper bracket from the rear parking brake assy and add a few washers but I don't know if this would be ok or would it be unsafe. Need some info so I can move forward with the project..

What Wilwood kit do you have and what axle offset? Got the same issue.

Pictures always help. From my experience with wilwood they are a fixed caliper and you must center the caliper to the rotor. If you rotor is touching your caliper bracket, it won't be centered and must be moved to towards the inside of the car with the shims they provide.

I thought the caliper bracket is fixed and the shims provided are to center the caliper.

There are shims to move the caliper bracket away from the axle and shims to move the caliper away from the rotor.

that was my plan to move the bracket away from the rotor a bit and then center the caliper. Just wasn't sure it was ok to do that. I just need about a 1/4'' or a bit less to make it work. Thanks now I can get back to work and get the wheels mounted on the car.

Yup, you got it. I had to do the same on my front WW brakes. Check yer local hardware supplier for machine spacers if the combo that WW sent you dont get the rotor directly in the center of the cal. Machinery spacers look like washers but come in varying thicknesses. I mocked up the correct amount of spacer material needed with washers then turned some solid spacers on the lathe to replace the washer pack. Mostly just for appearance sake. Washers will do the same thing. JR
