Brand new zr-1 vette, 7 weeks old, owner had it gutted and caged, and had wrap put on it, its a copy cat compuware car, but its genuine zr-1, tracked prepped.
He was leading the thunder nasa race, racing in st-1, and was leading a couple stock car su cars and ran out of talent, did not lift when he got 2 tires in the grass and when he came back on track it snap over steered bouncing off 2 walls, was first time on track with this car.
Nasa races were at watkins glen this weekend, and american iron etc were there.

Guessing this is a can't-be-fixed issue?

I was about to post that he had more money than talent but it occurs to me that would apply to many of us. Obviously he has major cahones. Regards of how wealthy it still has to sting. Damn sure hurts me just to see the pictures.

He may be covered by insurance. I talked with a gentleman at Lime Rock that wadded up a new Porsche GT and he said he had track insurance. He'd wrecked another one last year and the insurance company paid for all of the damages. I have no insurance on track and most of the people I've talked to don't either.
Although I put 4 wheels off and slid in the grass at the NASA Florida races at Sebring this past weekend I'm happy to report there were no major incidents (and no damage to The14 Car). The last NASA event I went to a few weeks ago at Palm Beach International claimed a Panoz, A Ferrari, and a couple of Mustangs in American Iron. That was a lot for a one day event. The Panoz and Ferrari hit hard.

True, if you bring a daily driver type car with regular insurance some policys cover it on track. Both the collector car and regular insurance I've had excluded track activities.

8:35 in to movie
you can see he does not lift, turns way to aggressively for being on grass and is sideways when he comes back on track, speed between 8-9 is probably 90-110

It looks like his tires were going away.
The guy in the Dodge is out braking and out-turning him in the corners.
I could be wrong....
I wasn't there..
But , the ZR1 looks like it won't turn in some of the corners.

Many of things could of happened, I know myself that turn is a little tricky. I never went off the track but I have taken that corner at several diffferent approaches. Ruke # 1 if someone is behind he or she is faster. So the guy driving in the video it would been a matter of time before he would of passed the zr-1 car. My guess in the heat of the moment he had a little brain fade and over shot the corner and it went in the grass and the rest is history. The last couple of events I have been to they are selling track insurance it is running about $150.00 per $25,000 you want insured. I guess if you insure it correctly it is an easy way of getting a new car.

I just realized that I'm in that pic too, that reflection right beside the left headlight on the fender...LOL
Oh and I apologize for any drool that might have gotten on your car while I was there. I was over with the NastyZ28 group.

its a race car bud, not a street car....
The C6 Z06 is an aluminum frame as well. Besides, like Jake said it's a race car.
Still has to hurt though. I am glad he walked away. That was a nasty hit.
