i have been off this site for awhile, got burnt out on the car project ....and now getting back into my car again ..:)
when i originally built the car, i did the "cheap big brake" conversion with b body spindles, and 3rd gen 1LE 12" rotors.
should have waited till something better came out.
i am running a 79 t/a discs on the rear. also not the greatest.
i am planning on going with the c5 or c6 front system. i am currently running 17x9 SLP SS camaro 5 spoke wheels with vette brakes wheel adapters all the way around.
which is the largest size c5/c6 rotor/caliper that will fit these 17" wheels?
those 6 piston c6 z06 calipers would be nice, but do they require 18" or larger wheels?

You shouldn't have a problem using something like Kore3s C5/6 hybrid front system. That's C5 rotors and C6 caliper. I have that on the front of my TA. I'm using 18in BMW rims though. You can get a fitment template off Kore3s website. I do know that those rims will clear factory C5 brakes though. Many fourth gen guys have C5 front brakes and those rims. I think the C6 caliper is slightly more out from the center than a C5 caliper.

I like my 12 inch B body/WS6 rear setup. I'll agree there are better combinations now but for what it is, it's pretty decent for stopping these big old second gens. It beats the crap out of the stock setup on my 74TA.

thanks for the replies.
I thought with the popularity of the wheels i am running (at least that was true when i built the car), someone may have some experience with fitment of the c5/6 setups already.
WS6 .. i will look into that .. a call to kore3 sounds like a good idea.
critter .. that is true ... it is waaaaay better than what came with it.. i guess i may be asking a little more than what they were designed for ..
also, as you know, the park brake setup is less than ideal.
also, with the wheels i have with open spokes, a larger brake package would also look nicer.
when i did my car, the 4th gen camaro and c4,5 setups were just getting started. i needed a brake setup, and this was a proven method. with good pads, it does work pretty good.
now years later, there seem to be many more options that still do not brake the bank.
any other thoughts?

All 1996 and newer 17" factory wheels from the 4th generation F-bodies will clear the 325mm C5/C6 front brakes without issues. Running them with adapters like you are should only give you more clearance since the brake will be positioned closer to the inside lip where the wheel flares outward somewhat. It's possible that you could fit the 340mm C6 Z51 kit, but probably not the 355mm C5/C6 Hybrid kit. The C6 Z06 monoblock calipers typically require 18's minimum, however fitment templates for each of the kits noted are available from our website.

I have 2008 Z51(13.5in rotors) Brake Kit on my '72 Camaro, I had to shave the fin alittle and use a 1/2 inch wheel spacer.. This was fine since I ordered the front wheels with an extra .5 of backspacing.. This is with a 17x8 wheel w/ 6.0in backspacing..

also, what spindle ? i got rid of my original spindles when i changed to the B body spindles ... will this brake setup work with the B body spindles i have?

Brad, your F-body spindles and the late(r)-model B-body spindles are interchangeable. We classify them both as GM tall-spindle applications since they are virtually the same with respect to all of the critical geometry. You should always reset your toe whenever swapping out spindles, otherwise it's pretty much bolt-in and go. Our GMTS bracket kits work the same on either spindle, 11 or 12 inch versions. As for the outer wheel bearings, you can accommodate the .750 diameter pin with a SET2 wheel bearing and the .844" pin diameter with a SET34 wheel bearing. Both have the same OD and differ only by their ID's.

I know there is a write up on how to do the spindle modifying on Nastyz28.com.. You will have to look it up..

Basically trim off the mounting points for the stock hardware, drill and tap two of the dustcover bolt holes to fit a 1/2x13 bolt, then you have a modified spindle ready to accept the Kore3 C5 bracket.
stock brake mounts have been cut off, still need to drill and tap the dust cover bolt holes...but this should give you an idea of how much cutting is involved.
