how well do you guys think a stock 200-4r trans would hold up behind a cam only ls1.
i know you're probably thinking, why?i already have the 200-4r in the car behind a l6 and i have the ls1 i bought for another project that won't need a motor for atleast another year.
the only thing i would need for the swap is v8 frame mounts, linkage kit for the 200-4r,computer tuned.

I'm gonna say NO. The LS1 puts out more power when stock than any engine the 200-4R was mated with. Plus, there are a few versions of "stock" for the 200-4R, some not really performance compatible.
If you were going to drive it nice and easy I think you could get by, but a few shifts at full power and it'll be on it's way out.
If you do try it you will find that BTO does have a "TV Made Easy" kit that will work with the throttle body, so that's one concern you don't have to worry about.

Depending on the year and type of car it came from, you will "find" (read: break) several weak points in the 200-4R. As Jason mentions there were several versions of stock 200-4Rs, the best ones being from a grand national and monte carlo SS, AFAIK. Early 200-4Rs had a weak sun gear shell, the splines would strip out. The later ones have a better sun shell. If you do decide to run a 200-4R behind a cammed LS1, you're definitely gonna need to rebuild with some stout upgrades, both hydraulic and hard parts.

A friend of mine has a bto 200r4 behind a turbo ls1 in a corvette. The tranny never had problems before the turbo, since the turbo he had to rebuild it.

Good information. What level of bow tie overdrives 200-4R did he get? (lol, i thought BTO was a valve body code for a sec there...)

Any estimates/info on the motor before/after turbo?

It was either 2 or 3 (leaning more towards 3) the motor was around 400 and with the turbo i'm unsure. It went low 11's spinning 235/60-15 bfg's so it is making some power. Here's a pull from when he got the motor in the car.

I specialize in the 200-4Rs. A stock one wouldn't fare well behind a LS1.
Excellent transmissions when done properly, but not the unit you want the average builder trying to make work and I would also suggest using a builder who has a known reputation in the TurboBuick community, oftentimes the big name places get their plates cleaned on the 200-4Rs.

i don't have any problem w/mine, its out of a gn with a different governor and built midly. my car runs mid 12's behind a 413 sbc. the gear ratios are better than a 700r4 especiallly between 1st and 2nd, not as big of a drop off.
