      Got my new v40's installed

Whats up guys? I received my new V40 wheels and Nitto Tires from Driverzinc.com. First off Jon was great to work with and everything went great. My only problem is that I ordered the 245/45/17 tires on the 17x8 wheel with a b/s of 4.75 and I have serious tire rub on the outer upper fender area to the point it's gouging the tire.

I know I'm gonna have to switch to a smaller tire so what would you guys recommend the 225/40/17 or the 235/45/17? I should tell ya that I have the front lowered 2-inches using Hotchkis lowering springs.

FYI,Looks like you've got the direction of the tires reversed. They look great on your car. I had a set on a white 69 chevelle and loved them.

Good Catch....I never even caught that. I got the ones in the back right. I was in just a hurry to get them on since it was on jack stands for so long waiting for them.

Perfect wheel for that year car...looks fantastic!

Weird that it rubs in front, where exactly is it rubbing?
Have you removed the center inner fender bolt right at 12 o'clock?
Sometimes that little bit will make all the difference.

I wouldn't go to a smaller tire just yet...is your suspension in good order and not worn out?

Try some negative camber. Also, either a tall UBJ or G-mod will give some negative camber curve gain. I think your sizing is OK.

Thanks for the responses guys. Yep...the suspension up front is mainly new. I still wanna switch the upper and lower control arms but other than that its new Hotchkis components. It is rubbing right at that 12 o'clock spot where that bolt is. I 'll try removing that bolt to see if it makes a difference. I still ordered 2 new tires in the 235/45/17 size just to be safe. I've read other threads with them using the 235/45.

Try removing the bolt first before swapping out the tires...you'd be amazed what that little bolt head difference will do for you.
You can also "massage" that area a bit with a BFH but I agree with Rick, those 245's should be fine there.

As suggested above, a -3/4* camber is fine for steet driven 1st gen cars. Change the wheelhouse bolts to buttonheads, and it should have plenty of clearance.

Thanks for all the responses...I changed the bolts out to buttonheads and it gave me a little more room. I'm gonna look into the negitive camber.
Thanks again for all the help.

They look great, Vintage Wheel Works (IMHO) make the best looking Torq Thrust style wheel in the + size diameters.

I was really unsure about switching to the V40's, I had the Billet Specialties Street Lites but I'm glad I did. I think they look better and the car drives totally different with the 17's.
