      Can NT-05's survive without chunking

      Hello,

Has anyone tried open tracking with Nitto NT-05's (the supposed street and track tire). Can the full tread depth NT-05's survive track use without chunking heavily? I wonder if these tires heat up fast and get greasy after a lap and a half like many of the others? Durability and heat stability are more important to me than total grip.

      Regards

We've put the NT05s on a few cars now, with no complaints and only satisfied customers. Johnny ran them on the GoodGuys autox and said they made a huge difference on his 67 Tempest.

The tire is still very new, so it might take a little while before you hear any real track feedback on them, but so far, so good. Check the Vette forums, we've done several sets for those guys in 285s and 335s and all of them seem to love them.

If I get them I guess I will be the beta tester for track use with a Pony Car. I generally chunk Kumho MX's by the third session of the first day in the dry. I'm also signed up for Mazda Laguna Seca in December and will likely sign up for Infineon in November, so I could collect wet track data as well. How many would be interested in knowing what happens?

I hope they work as promised by the manufacturer, as I hate the idea of having to carrying tires to and from the track, and not being able to run them on the street without wearing them out quickly. They are about half the price of the R888’s, which is attractive as well.
