      Running NON-DOT wheels on street?

I'm looking at some Basset wheels and need some insight on running their non-DOT wheels for street driving? Comments or suggestions on whether I should or not?

Not sure about their wheels, but I ran my hoosier DOT road racing tires on the street...and it sucked big time.

The hoosiers are a bias-ply tire, so they need to heat up before they smooth out. At first, you feel like the car is going to shake apart.

Also, anytime I hit one of the painted lines in the road, the car would slide off the line and dart whichever way it feld like going.

I drove my car like that once...and will never do it again.

Again, not sure if the basset wheels are safe for street use, so best to find someone who has those exact wheels and has tried it.

I got a set of the mickey thompson S/Ts and they ride nice. They'd look good on the basset wheels too.

      There's always the liability issue.

Running non-DOT approved wheels on the street would not be wise.

If wheel failure ever caused you to have an accident you would be liable.

Even if wheel failure didn't cause the accident I'd bet some lawyer would point out the non-DOT wheels were in some way a contributing factor.
