Will a Dana 44 Corvette IRS stand up to 500Hp? With some modifications of course. Im thinking about putting one in the Chevelle.
I am going as far a a new frame and everything, whats an IRS gonna hurt? Right? If it wont wrk Im thinking of trying a lil something with a ford 9" rear center section, and a bunch IRS parts. FEEDBACK PLEASE!!!!

if your easy on the low end torque and high rpm 6 speed launch's it would at
least be fun for awhile.

once you made the swap atleast you would have replacement parts if you didnt hack up a factory set-up to bad

A good Dana 44 can handle a lot more than 500hp. Some of the stroker & turbo ZR-1's and Vipers are making almost twice that. Those two cars actually use what is known as a Super 44. Stay away from plain jane Dana 44 gearsets(use Super 44 units),buy some billet spindles and steel or chromoly halfshafts, and you should be good to go.

If your going to do a custom set up where your making brackets and such you might want to look into a Mopar performance Dana 44 center section. The are built as a race replacement for Vipers.
The offer several gear ratios, stout posi unit and cost under $1400. I can get them for abit cheaper. Pn P05007402 is for a 3.73 unit. Just a thought if your worried about breakage.
