      Recaro and UPS dont mix

My leather recaro seats just came in via UPS today. The first sign that the experience wasnt going to be as enjoyable as I had hoped came when the delivery driver presented me with a 4'x2'x2' box that looked as thought they had tryed to punt it across the country.

Inside the I found the plastic back of the passenger seat with multiple fractures in the lower aria of the J-clip and around the back adjuster knob, thanks UPS. Because I bought them used I couldnt send them back to be replaced and happily the shipper decided it would be best to just shove them in a box with no padding and then not buy any insurance, leaving me with the $100 minimum that UPS provides free.....good call.

I called recaro and tried to get the hard plastic piece separate only to find out that they are unavailable. I tried to repair the cracks with ABS cement with little success, it seems that seat back must be made of another type of plastic.
Has anyone repaired one of these before and learned what type of cement works or some other alternative?

Loctite makes a super glue for the type of plastic you are trying to glue. Not all super glue is the same so read the label. the stuff you need will come with a primer/ accelerator.

You may want to look into having them "plastic welded" You can even pick up a kit to do it yourself.

You might also want to look at some of the products used for repairing plastic body parts. SEM and some others make some very nice plastic repair compounds.

I hear you there my sparco milanos came to me damaged from ups. Mostly because of the incredibly poor packing job by sparco.

If you paid by credit card, dispute the charge. It's the vendor's responsibility to get the goods to you in the condition you purchased them.

      x2 on the above.

If that fails ask around at some local sport-bike oriented shops. One of them should be able to point you toward someone who has plastic welding equipment for fairing repair.

You might want to look at this product if all else fails. I haven't used it yet, but i think it will solve my dash issues when I get to it this Winter.

If the UPS guy handed you the box you should have told him to wait for damage inspection.
You need to call the vendor and have them file a claim.
      - - You shouldn't have to be the one to pay to fix this.
In order to file the claim you need all the packing materials and shouldn't try to glue/weld/fix anything...

You may have missed the boat if some pieces of the puzzle are missing...
