Hi I am working to upgrade my 77 Trans am to handle at elast as anything new short of a Vette on a budget...

Starting with a basically restored car with poly bushings everywhere stock front 1.25 bar and .75 rear ws6 bar. I have QA 1 single adjust shock front and Koni Reds in the back. Stock springs front coils cut 1/2 coil. I am looking at Kuhmo XS 285/17/40 rear and maybe 275/40/17 front on Year ones 17" snowflake rims... I hope the 275-40 fits up front I hear they do but it is tight. My 255/60/15's do rub the sway bar a bit at full lock. Anyway I was looking at solid subframe bushings and maybe new upper control arms for more camber and caster. What about the longer ball joint is it worth doing... I was looking at protouring f-body for the bushings and arms and some I found links to here and most do not include a upper bump stop so I am concerned about over travel at the drag strip. The car has been know to carry the front tires a bit if it can hook....I have welded in subframe connectors and have 1 LE brakes on the front with factory Disk on the back. I figure to upgrade the springs next or maybe swap out the rear to coil spring system rather then spend 900 bucks for good leafs .. ride quality does matter, but is not a major concern I do not want it clunking and banging though....
Thanks for helping a new guy get off to a good start...

Thanks for looking at our product, I'll try to help on a budget, I would run 255-45-17 on the front the 285-40-are fine, trying to change the rear suspension to coil springs is more than a $900 endever If I were you I would look at our Comp suspension kit and you will be set, you already have adjustable shocks, add our Comp upper control arms with tall ball joints and this will bring you 30+ year old car to modern standards.

So a 275/40/17 is too much for the front ?
I really want as much rubber as I can to get this heavy beat to turn and since it already tends to under steer due to the heavy nose even with aluminum heads I figured the 275 would help over the 255...
But I drive it on the street and I don't rally want to have it rubbing all the time either...

What about the missing bumper on the A-arm? I see that global west has one but most do not...

Thanks !!!

I am also looking at the front sub brace but have some fit concerns.

G-braces? they fit most applications and they have been redesigned in just the past month to provide as much valve cover clearance as possible for BBCs with tall valve covers (I still need to find a local car to try them).
as for the bump stop I can provide a bumper that mounts to the frame that can help but when using a tall ball joint and a lowered suspension generaly the shock wil stop the extention of the suspension before the bump stop.
As for the 275 tires they will rub the sway bar and the back side of the wheel well without getting the Comp lowers that have caster built in, and theyu most likely will rub at the very top, the other thing is that as you tune the suspension you can tighten the rear to reduce understeer IF you have some but unlikely, one of the reasons we made an adjustable rear bar as well is to give the customer some tuning ability
