View Full Version : Purchasing wheels, do I have mini tubs installed already?
Not sure if this is the right sub forum to post in, but I bought my car from a guy that supposedly already did the DSE mini tub install, but I don't really know what stock was supposed to look like. I measured from the inner wheelwell to the center of the quarter panel outer lip (marked with the red X in the pic) and it was roughly 15" deep. Is that stock depth or mini tub depth?

Not my car by the way, just using the pic to mark where I measured to.

Does the inner wheelhouse go into the rear frame rail? The DSE mini tub requires cutting into the rear frame rail (slightly) to gain the necessary clearance.
Can you take a pic from underneath showing that area?

if im not mistaken i think the stock measurement is 11.5 or so

I looked under the car and the wheelhouse does go into the frame rail. There is a slight cutting into the frame rail and I can see his welds. Looks as though it is indeed mini-tubbed.
Thanks for the responses guys.
What kind of wheels do you have on there?

What size tires are on there now? A mini tub will be somewhere near 14 to 14 1/2 inches inside to insuiide where you measured. If you at 15 to the outside, your mini tub.
Call me if you mneed more information on where to measure and what will fit.

Some very old 15" Centerlines that are extremely ugly.

It currently has old worn out 275's on there with plenty of room to spare. I'm on the fence still as to what diameter wheels to go with, but I'll be in touch with you when I decide.

I'm thinking 18" front 19" rear would look best on this car, but my other cars with big wheels have straight line traction issues. I'd like to set this one up to perform a little better than them.
I'll probably end up getting a set of 18F/19R street/look pretty wheels and some 15" drag wheels for when I feel the itch to go fast in a straight line.

19"s in the rear will look kind of funky due to the small brakes needed to clear 15's. I think 18's all around and some 16's for the track.
