I would like to upgrade from my current headlights. Does the HID kits use a Hi/Low set up or just low? Is there a preferred headlamp assy. to use? Which kit is a good compromise for price and day to day driving? Is the current draw less than regular lights? My PT car just became my DD and the halogens just aren't cutting it, plus my dimmer needs replacing as I only have hi beams.

Most HID setups are just low beam or high beam, but there are a few that can do both.
Preferred: I can't answer that one.
Kits: Same thing, I don't have an answer.
Current draw is more on startup, but less continued. They only use 35W, compared to 50-65W for halogens.
I recommend going to the Daniel Stern website and giveng them a call. They can straighten you out on using HIDs and recommend good bulbs for you.
Since I have yet to see an inexpensive HID setup that is properly done I would recommend just upgrading to a better headlight assembly that uses replaceable bulbs. Hella's Bright Driver is one option.
Basically it has a better beam pattern that lights up the road much better without blinding other drivers, and the high beam is awesome!

Are the back of your headlamps glass or metal? If they metal you can modify them in such a way to run OE projectors such as the hella e-55 which is a bi-xenon. (high and low, but its really just a shutter that limits the high beam.) These projectors came out of a volkswagen and they were originally a h7 bulb. quick modification to the bulb holder and vola, cheap hid kit from hidjoe.com and ultra bad ass lighting in an old school truck. Becuase its a real projector, i get a nice cut off like you see in the picture.
Sorry for the large pictures, I dont have access to the original link where it offers forum size pictures. oh well..

I just ordered a set from Autoloc. I've used their other products over the years. Heres a link to the HIDs (http://www.thehoffmangroup.com/autoloc/product.lasso?prodinc=ionheadlights&r=5033)
