      autometer speedo calibrating?

i have an autometer sport comp speedometer im trying to calibrate.

      heres their directions

      1. Press and hold the button while starting the vehicle. Once the motor is running, you can then release the button after the pointer goes to the highest MPH reading and stays. 2. Drive to the beginning of your carefully measured 2-mile distance, and stop. Press the button again, and the pointer should then go to half of the maximum MPH reading, and the speedo is then ready to be calibrated. 3. Drive the two miles, stop, and push the button, the pointer will drop to zero and the calibration is complete and the speedo should begin indicating the speed when you start driving.

everything went fine till i got to my 2 mile starting point, when i was ready to go i hit the button again to get it to 60, i waited a few minutes and nothing moved so i tried it again and it went to 60. i started driving and the mileage was going up crazy (i figured it was part of the calibrating) i got to the 2 miles stopped and hit it again and waited for it to move to 0 but it didnt. so i started driving again and it stayed at 60 and the mileage didnt change it was at about 43000. i got home turned the main power of the car off, waited a little then turned it back on and it went back to the max speed(120) and showed 0 miles. so i went to try it all again and now it just stays at 120mph with 0 miles. everytime i turn the power off then back on, it jumps from 120 down to 60 then back up to 120 and stays there. im not sure what to do or if its maybe deffected, i dont know. anyone have any info on this? Thanks

Joe, I can't help you any at all but I have an electric Autometer Sport Comp speedo that I'll be putting in my dash. If you get it figured out, I'd be interested in hearing your solution. Either PM me or update here. I've still got to build my custom panel to mount my gauges and rebuild my engine so it's going to be a while before my speedo sees any electrons.

Sounds like a bad speedo to me. Mine was a piece of cake when I calibrated it.

Did you try to calibrate it again?
