I'm putting my stupid car back together again. I'm trying to figure out how my starter wires go. There's a large red wire. Got that one(No brainer) but there's a purple wire and a yellowish wire as well and about half way down that harness is a small black wire that seems to be pinched off short. On the starter is the small terminals. One marked R and the other one marked S. I'm not sure which one goes to what and also the pinched black wire that appears to have been done years ago.Any help would be appreciated. The starter is sitting on a floor jack and my finger is sore from the dang thing dropping on it.

The purple is your start wire. Goes to the "S" terminal.
The yellow is your resistor bypass. It provides full 12v to your ignition coil during cranking. That goes to the "R" terminal on the starter.

Ok, Thank you. That leads me to another question. I'm getting rid of the points stuff and am running a MSD Pro Billet distributor and MSD Digital 6 box and Blaster coil. After pondering it, am I correct that I do not need that yellow wire to the coil, and if so, Where would a good place to get my switched 12 volts to the coil and box? Maybe run a wire from the ignition switch on top of the column? Which wire should I cut into? I have a 20 year old son who thoughtfully lost my origional service manual and wiring diagrams. I searched online last night for a diagram and came up empty.

Your right in that with the MSD you will not need the yellow wire (it sends 12 volts to the coil to give a boost in starting). I answered your other question on the hook up of the ignition in your later thread. I may have a Mitchell diagram of your car at home that I can scan in a e-mail you.......be forewarned I have found major mistakes in the Mitchell diagrams for my Chevy Truck.

Ok, Thanks. If you wouldd, I'd appreciate the wiring diagram. Actually, I'm somewhat lucky in the fact that I bought the car in 84 when I was 17 and I never cut it up as far as the wiring, trim or anything else. I must not be as dumb as I look... lol
