Mufflers?

I am curious what most of you are running for mufflers. I have had Flowmasters in the past that sounded good, but now with 3" duals the Flowmasters are a little too loud when on it hard. I want something with that mean rumble, but not the overpowering loud I am getting.

Recommendations?

I had Series 40 Flowmasters, git tired of the drone at certain RPMs. Now running Magnaflows and love them. If I want a bit more umpf, my Monte also has electric cutouts, hehe...

Just 2 days ago I put a new set of 3" PYPES Race Pro 409 stainless steel mufflers on my GTO, they sound fairly quiet at idle compared to the Flowmaster race mufflers I was running before.

When you nail the throttle they really come to life, plenty of sweet noise. None of the droning and resonance that Flowmasters are known for, I could hardly stand driving my car around town with the old Flowmasters.

I went for the 18" long case Race Pros, and bought some stainless band clamps to replace the U-bolt clamps I was using before. These mufflers have a very slim profile and weigh only 12 # each.

I took the car for nice long drive yesterday, I'm sold on the Race Pros. They're around $77 each from Summit Racing.

I plan to go with the DynoMax Super Turbo mufflers..... I hope they don't have the same issue.Completely different muffler, I've used many of the Super Turbo mufflers and they've always worked fine for many miles.

The problem with the Ultra -Flo muffs was either a material or stamping issue, they had just changed the material on them from aluminized steel to 409 stainless.

The Race Pro muffs sound almost the same as the Ultra-Flo muffs, maybe just a tad mellower at idle.

Bought a pair of 5 hrs old Dyno MAx Super Turbo Corvette Mufflers, guys wifey thought they were too loud, so I got them for $60 installed!
Bought them in like 91 or 92, had them on my 70 MC through 2 engines, then my 78 C10 through 2 engines, figured up over 14 yrs and 200k in miles!
Kind of sad when one blew apart, now have pair of old Flowb@st@rds from buddy who went 3in pipes on car w/bbc.

I had a 2002 Harley Davidson edition supercharged f150 that ran dynomax stainless steel welded ultra flow mufflers in 2003, behind long tubes, random technologies cats and 15#s of boost. For well over 60K miles, with a x-pipe in the system. never had one single issue with the mufflers.

True, I had a catalog from the late 90's (might still have it) and they were always stainless. Might not have been 409 series though.

I bought my Ultra-Flo mufflers from Summit, they were shipped to me and one was aluminized steel and the other was 409 stainless. I called Summit and they had Walker drop-ship another 409 stainless muffler directly to me to replace the aluminized steel one.

Same exact part number, different materials for each. The box label with the 409 stainless muffler said 'stainless steel' on it, but again no part # change.

False statement? Nowhere did I say that the stainless Ultra-Flo mufflers were not available years ago.

It sure looks to me that the aluminized steel material had been phased out in favor of the 409 stainless material.

After they both failed (cracking right next to the stamped logo) Walker sent me a refund.

Usually they just replace them since they have a lifetime warranty, but in my case they decided that a refund was in order since they had some issues with the manufacturing of them.

I have edelbrock stainless muffs. 3" in and out. They are old but dont have any miles on them, still building the car. They sound great IMO. What I dont like about them? They have a ceramic wool baffle material. Im thinking this will get burnt and blown out eventually. Time will tell. JR

I have them on my '88 SS and that's a great description. And another benefit - no drone! My car is quiet inside at cruise speed.

borla xr1s here, i LOVE them! i went from stock to glass packs to dynomax turbos to single chamber mufflers then the the borla xr1s all with in a years time. :hand:
but when i got to the borlas i knew they were the ones for me.
