any suggestions on how to completely eliminate the smell out of a car interior besides changing the interior? :hammer:
I have shampooed the seats, carpet and headliner. Tried white vinger in a bowl. That has toned it down but I want to get it gone! :machine:
Any other suggestions?

The smell stays in all cloth padding etc. Fabreeze or the like works o.k., if you soak it in and let it dry. I had to replace almost everything to be rid of it. Also i took the dash apart and cleaned the heat and defrost ducts.

That is a big source of the odor that most people tend to ignore. I've done the same. It's a lot of work, but worth it in the end.

You need something that generates ozone. Put it in the car and leave it for a while, just don't breathe the stuff. You might be able to find a local place to rent one.

this will work if you have a seal on the inside of the car. meaning all the windows, vents, etc... have to be closed. the idea is that all the air is pulled into the ozoning machine including the smell of smoke. personally I dont like it. we have one of those machines here at my work.the machine has to be run for 24 hours min. I own a high end drycleaners we deal with fire damaged clothes all the time. the only truely way to get the smoke out if its really bad is washing. a good soap and really hot water. I know you cant do that.
I smelled a stale smell in my Benz. it was still under warrenty. they put in a deoderizer in the vents. my bubby was the service writter. he said it was a form of lysol.
be carful tho. no matter what you use. basically it is bacteria that you want to kill. bleach will kill it but it will damage your fabric also.
if you do use bleach use a 50/50 mix with water.
lemme know.

Yeah the car in question is a 05' Chrysler 300. So the "seal" is there.

As said, ozone generator is what the dealers and rental car places use.

It's so hard to get rid of.....My Mother in Law was a smoker and we ended up with her house. It's been three years and every so often I open a closet or drawer and get a wiff of cigarettes.
It seems like it never goes away.

Some of those cars have a cabin filter that is replaceable, might want to check for that if you have not.

Here is a used car lot trick to get rid of smoker. A dryer sheet under the seats.
I would personally use a firehose on the person who made it smell like that......:machine:

Yep, that's the stuff. Works awesome, and only $8! I got it from TCP Global. Here's a link: http://www.tcpglobal.com/detailsupplydepot/dsd27.aspx
Autoglym Autofresh is the product.
When I drug my Nova out from a barn in Oregon, a couple of mice had gotten in there and made it their home :machine:STINK! After cleaning out the mouse nest and a couple of mouse skeletons the smell still lingered from the urine and feces. After trying out 3 other products, the Autoglym was the only one that killed the smell.

What about Arm & Hammer baking soda? I would take a box and sprinkle it over everything and let the car sit closed up for a couple days.

I've tried that. Nada. I actually tried that when my wife left a jug of milk in her SUV, which happened to leak. Doesn't work.

I've tried febreeze and it works if you keep at it for a while. Charcoal is also supposed to work.

How long did you let the vinegar sit? If you get a big enough bowl and leave it in there long enough it should soak up most of the odor.

last weekend I left the vinegar in a 6" round cereal bowl over 3 days. Car def smells like vinegar LOL. This weekend I left febreeze in the same size bowl. Been like that since Friday, will have to check today. I also injected the a/c ducting with Febreeze. :machine:

My friend's dad sold used cars and he would close up the windows, turn the heater on full blast and spray Raid bug spray (the old stuff in the red can, I kinda liked the smell) into the cowl intake vent. He would let it run for about 20 min. and then let it sit overnight. The next day, he would let it air out with the windows open. I thought he was nuts but, it worked. No joke.

Local parts store should have stuff to clean out a/c vents. I think its called iso-butanol or isobutyl alcohol, but it comes in an aerosol can that you spray into the hood vent where it draws in the fresh air. You let your car run for a while, then spray and let it run for a while longer with the windows up and a/c on full blast.
I smoke, and my truck started to stink from the ac/heater when it was turned on, so i tried this stuff. It worked very well other than smelling kinda funny for the rest of that day. Matter of fact, its probably about time to do it again...:smoke:

I do the Fabric softener sheets under the seats. I play league ball and get in my car smelling pretty ripe after a tournament. Takes care of the sweaty car smell.
My Camro smells better now after sitting as well. I was a smoker until 20 months ago, so over 10 years of smoking in it (it served as a DD for the first 4 of those years) it was really bad. The dryer sheets keep it noce and not overpowering when you get in after sitting for a month or so (yes, my baby gets neglected from time to time).
